Script for Star Trek: Origins is reportedly done and on its way to a greenlight
As a lifelong Star Trek fan who’s spent countless hours navigating the final frontier of my living room couch, I must admit I’m intrigued by the news about Star Trek: Origins. Seth Grahame-Smith, the man behind Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, penning the script? That’s a bold move, Captain!
According to reports from Trekmovie, it appears that Seth Grahame-Smith, known for his popular novels such as “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” and “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter”, has completed the script for what is currently unnamed Star Trek: Origins movie. If approved, production could potentially start in the next year with a 2026 release date for cinemas.
The movie is primarily handled by Toby Haynes, who directed the U.S.S. Callister episode from Black Mirror, a show co-created and written by Charlie Brooke and William Bridges (both Star Trek fans). This specific episode was very much like a Star Trek installment for Haynes. There’s speculation that a sequel to this episode might appear in the seventh season of Black Mirror, a development Variety has confirmed is still on track. It remains unclear if Haynes will be directing the potential sequel as well.
Given that the upcoming Star Trek movie primarily takes place on Earth instead of in space, some fans have expressed concerns about how well it will resonate, considering Star Trek’s long-standing focus on exploration and the cosmos, you know, “space, the final frontier.” There are numerous debates happening online among these enthusiasts who seem less than enthused by this concept, which initially was intended for the first season of Star Trek: Enterprise.
This film seems to be progressing and unfolding more details as we go along. Although there’s some uncertainty surrounding it, there’s potential for this to turn into an exceptional movie. Therefore, it’s important for us to remain open to that possibility. Can we manage that? I’m not suggesting it will be effortless, but this movie could serve as a fantastic entry point for those new to Star Trek. Expanding the reach of the Star Trek franchise certainly has no disadvantages.
