Katherine Kelly to lead new Channel 4 crime drama from Marcella bosses

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for gritty crime dramas and a soft spot for strong female characters, I am thrilled about the upcoming series, “In Flight.” Katherine Kelly, a familiar face from my favorite British soaps, is taking on a gripping role that promises to keep me glued to the screen. The narrative of a single mom navigating through the underbelly of crime while fighting for her son’s life sounds like an exhilarating rollercoaster ride I can’t wait to jump onto.

Actress Katherine Kelly, known for her roles in “Coronation Street” and “Mr Bates vs the Post Office,” has been cast in a fresh Channel 4 production.

The star has taken on the role for “In Flight,” an upcoming crime drama co-written by Mike Walden (of Marcella fame) and Adam Randall (from Slow Horses), and helmed by Chris Baugh, fresh from Tin Star. Filming is now underway in Belfast.

The series primarily revolves around the character of Kelly, portraying Jo Conran – a solitary mother who works as an air hostess. Her son is currently incarcerated for fifteen years in a Bulgarian penitentiary, claiming innocence for a murder he maintains he did not perpetrate.

A group who know about her child threatens her, demanding that in order to keep him safe, she must exploit her position at work to illegally transport drugs between countries. With so many crooked policemen and hired assassins involved, it appears as though Jo is trapped in this situation with no chance of rescuing her son. Yet, she remains steadfast in her resolve.

The storyline will span through Bangkok, Bulgaria, Istanbul, and London. Actors such as Stuart Martin from Babylon, Ashley Thomas from The Serpent Queen, Bronagh Waugh from Hollyoaks, Harry Cadby from Inside Man, Carinna Brown from Heartstopper, and Ambreen Razia from Ted Lasso will be part of this production.

Kelly expressed great enthusiasm, saying, “I’m thrilled to step into the character of Jo, and I can hardly wait to share her captivating tale.
