Beloved Channel 7 presenter announces shock retirement: 'I have enjoyed the best job in the world

As a lifelong viewer of Channel Seven and avid sports enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a tinge of melancholy as Tim Watson bids farewell to his esteemed career. Having grown up watching him deliver the latest sporting news with unparalleled enthusiasm, it feels like losing a trusted friend who has been there through thick and thin, cheering for our favorite teams and players.

Tim Watson has announced his retirement after three decades with Channel Seven.

During the Monday evening news broadcast, the long-serving sports anchor for 7NEWS Melbourne announced the end of his successful career.

‘Watson stated that they’ve had an amazing experience working on what seems like the perfect job, all while being supported exceptionally well by their network’,” is one way to paraphrase the original sentence.

Working alongside diligent and gifted individuals who tirelessly strive for excellence in crafting top-notch news broadcasts, I consider it an honor and joy to have been welcomed into people’s households to share sports updates.

After delivering his surprising declaration, the long-time TV personality received an overwhelming amount of admiration. Chris Salter, Director of 7NEWS Melbourne, was among those paying tribute.

‘He was a legend on the field, and he leaves Seven as a legend of the media,’ he began.

We appreciate Tim’s dedication and professionalism over the years, as well as his unwavering loyalty. The viewers and our newsroom alike will surely feel his absence.

Elsewhere, 7NEWS Melbourne anchor Peter Mitchell also offered kind words.

Mitchell mentioned that over the course of his job at Seven, it’s been a great advantage to have Tim regularly sit next to him on weeknights. Not just a Bombers legend, Tim is truly one of the most exceptional individuals he’s encountered.

Beyond his charisma and wisdom during broadcasts, I’ll truly miss our lively conversations off-camera that spanned an eclectic mix of subjects – football, Taylor Swift, the intricacies of pizza ovens and toppings, politics, music, and family life. Those behind-the-scenes chats will be dearly missed.

‘I wish Tim and his extended family nothing but the best with his new direction.’
