Line of Duty star’s 2019 London-set crime drama is now on Netflix
As a binge-watching connoisseur with a penchant for gritty British dramas and a soft spot for underdog stories, I can confidently say that the arrival of “Temple” on Netflix is a delightful addition to my viewing queue. With its stellar cast and intriguing premise, this crime drama has already piqued my interest from the moment I stumbled upon it during one of my endless scrolls through the streaming service’s offerings.
Today (November 11), the original Sky drama titled “Temple,” starring Daniel Mays from “Line of Duty” and Mark Strong known for “The Penguin,” is now available on Netflix.
The crime-centered television show, initially broadcast in London as far back as 2019, tells the story of a renowned surgeon. In a desperate attempt to save his ailing spouse, he operates an underground medical facility hidden within the tunnels beneath Temple tube station.
The series, titled “Temple,” draws inspiration from the Norwegian drama “Valkyrien” and is the brainchild of writer Mark O’Rowe, who has previously contributed to shows like “Normal People.
In this production, Strong and Mays play the roles of Dr. Daniel Milton, a skilled surgeon, and Lee Simmons, a transport worker, respectively. They unite to establish a medical network, with other notable cast members from “Temple” being Craig Parkinson known for his role in “Line of Duty”, Carice van Houten famous for her work in “Game of Thrones”, Wunmi Mosaku and Catherine McCormack.
In the year 2021, I was thrilled to find myself back in the world of “Temple” for its second season. As we delved deeper into the production, there was one aspect of the experience that truly resonated with me – something I couldn’t help but reflect on:
In an interview with Collider, he shared that what he found most enjoyable was his connection with the character played by Danny Mays, named Lee.
“I didn’t quite understand how much of a double act they could become, but there is something really enjoyable about watching this odd couple working together. That’s been the revelation for me. I discovered it in the first season and it was something that we actively wanted to promote in the second season. I’ve really enjoyed doing that and playing alongside Danny Mays. His character, Lee, is a great foil for Daniel.”
Regarding a potential third season of Temple, creator Strong hinted at its possibility way back in 2021, but since then, no fresh updates have emerged about this prospect.
In their own words, they’ve penned several episodes and prepared a plan for the third season if given the chance. They were mindful as they crafted the ending of the second season to include a significant cliffhanger, which they succeeded in doing. The choice they made leaves the direction for the next stage entirely up in the air.
Temple aired on Sky in the UK, and is now available on Netflix.
