Ariana Grande is speaking out about Disney not changing this iconic ride

As a dedicated Disney fan who has grown up with the magic of the theme parks, I wholeheartedly stand by Ariana Grande and Mariah Carey’s sentiments about preserving the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Having experienced the thrill of the original ride multiple times in both Florida and California, I can attest to its unique charm and immersive storytelling that transcends one’s familiarity with the source material.

A major star is talking about Disney not changing the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and with a “Wicked” tongue to boot!

30 years ago, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror became one of Disney’s most recognized landmarks, having first opened at the Disney-MGM Studios. This thrilling attraction skillfully blended the beloved TV show into an awe-inspiring experience that delighted fans with its exhilarating drops and captivating theme.

The ride was replicated for California Adventure, Paris’ Disney Studios park and then Tokyo DisneySea. The latter had to be changed as The Twilight Zone isn’t that famous in Japan, so the ride was altered to an original story of an explorer.

In 2017, the California attraction was rebranded as “Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout,” featuring well-known Marvel characters and a rock soundtrack. This transformation has led to immense popularity, while the Florida version maintains its “Twilight Zone” themes. Remarkably, it has managed to stay relevant for such a long period, but there are constant whispers of potential modifications in the future.

As a gaming enthusiast putting it in my own words, Ariana Grande, who’s been a big name in pop music since her child star days, is expressing some strong feelings about the upcoming movie adaptation of Wicked, the hit Broadway musical. During an appearance on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ podcast, Las Culturistas, Grande shared her affection for the Tower and expressed her desire to preserve its original theme in the new film.

I want to speak on the Tower of Terror because I love and respect the Guardians of the Galaxy, of course I do. I think it’s a beautiful thing, it’s great, it’s impressive, it’s amazing. I’m a big Baby Groot person. I don’t remember much about her, but I love her.

Disregarding Groot’s gender, Grande’s sentiment might resonate with other enthusiasts. Although the Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster is enjoyable for many, a significant number of fans express a preference for the Twilight Zone theme instead. This theme not only adds an exciting layer to the ride but also manages to captivate guests, even those who haven’t seen a single episode of the show.

Grande then read an open letter to Disney about her feelings on the ride.

Perhaps this message comes prematurely, but I would be remiss if I did not reach out with a potential matter of grave concern. In the wake of the most recent alterations that have befallen your historic park in California — yes, I’m referring to the calamitous loss/makeover of the Tower of Terror ride here — I humbly implore you to not follow suit. Please allow the iconic and tremendous Tower of Terror to stand tall, permanently in the name of historical preservation, spooky honor, and good, old-fashioned fun. I hope that you’ll consider this humble plea from a passionate fan.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel a tinge of concern when Ariana Grande mentions her concerns about potential changes to the original Tower. Though there’s no solid evidence yet that Disney is planning such a move, history shows us that they occasionally reimagine significant attractions like Splash Mountain and the upcoming revamp of Frontierland. So it’s understandable for Grande and other fans to worry that Disney might consider altering the Tower as well.

As a devoted fan, I’d express it this way: “I find one issue lies in the fact that Guardians of the Galaxy already has an attraction at Epcot. Introducing another one at the adjacent park might feel excessive. Over the years, the Tower of Terror has grown to be as iconic for Disney visitors as the Haunted Mansion, and any changes to it seem somewhat out of place.

Ariana Grande isn’t the only well-known artist expressing support for preserving the Tower; Mariah Carey (one of Grande’s inspirations) shared similar sentiments on a podcast in October. It’s unclear if Disney is contemplating any changes, but they must understand that two prominent pop stars are eager to see the Tower carry on its trips into the Twilight Zone.
