Carol Kirkwood, the popular weather presenter on BBC Breakfast, said goodbye to viewers in an emotional send-off. She announced in January that she was leaving the show after 28 years.
The popular television host left their morning show today, and heartfelt video messages flooded in from colleagues like Zoe Ball, Clare Balding, and Sue Barker, along with fans and even Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Carol described the tributes as ‘beautiful’.
The episode included a visit from her husband, Steve, and her guide dog, Flash. Flash famously tugged her over at the Chelsea Flower Show in a moment that went viral. She also received lovely gifts, like a picture from the movie Little Miss Sunshine and a cake.

Surrounded by her coworkers, Carol ended her broadcast with a heartfelt message to viewers: “Thank you for your trust, whether I was reporting on heatwaves or snowstorms, major national events or simply helping you decide if you needed an umbrella. You’ve always been there, and I’ve truly appreciated it.”
To everyone I’ve worked with, both on and off screen, I want to express my deep gratitude. You’ve been more than just colleagues – you’ve been my support system and, many times, felt like family.

Wow, Carol summed it up perfectly! We’ve been through everything together – late nights grinding, hilarious moments, some seriously rough patches, and total craziness. Honestly, I wouldn’t trade a single second of it. It’s been an amazing ride with this team.
More than just a job, this work has given me lasting memories,” the presenter shared. “I’ll always cherish the friendships I’ve made and the amazing experience of witnessing the ever-changing beauty of the weather – something I’m still passionate about.

She acknowledged she’s not sure what the future holds, but feels it’s time for a fresh start. She’s looking forward to spending more time with Steve and maybe even enjoying watching the weather instead of being on TV.
Getting visibly emotional, she concluded: “Thank you for letting me be part of your lives.”
BBC Breakfast airs from 6am to 9am on BBC One.
