6 shows to watch if you love Good Omens

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in fantasy worlds, I must say that Good Omens has truly cast a spell on me. The series has been a rollercoaster ride of supernatural elements, witty banter, and heartfelt relationships that I simply can’t get enough of!

As a gamer, I must admit I was curious about how well the story of Good Omens would transition from pages to screens. To my delight, it proved to be a success! Now, we’re on the edge of our seats, eagerly waiting to unravel the remaining chapters and witness the grand finale. However, let me clarify that “ready” might not quite capture the level of anticipation and excitement we’re feeling – more like we can’t wait for the ending, but it does need one!

This show, Good Omens, is unique and hard to replicate. While other series may possess some similarities in terms of energy, none quite match it. A handful of shows may come close, but ultimately the experience you get from Good Omens can’t be found elsewhere. The key lies in discovering what aspects of Good Omens resonate with you in other works.

Here are six shows worth watching.

The Magicians

If you’re intrigued by supernatural themes and character dynamics, “The Magicians” is the series not to miss. The duo of John McNamara and Sera Gamble skillfully adapted Lev Grossman’s novel, breathing life into characters in a way that surpasses our expectations.

Beyond merely a series about universe salvation from an ominous menace, it delved into themes of mental health, love, camaraderie, and personal development. Every character experienced their unique path to growth – some mastered their power, while others discovered the essence of being kind and loyal companions. Moreover, characters with doubtful decisions were not wholly condemned because, after all, don’t we all stumble occasionally?

The Magicians is available to stream in full on Netflix.

A Discovery of Witches

A significant aspect that captivates us in Good Omens is witnessing the evolution of former connections. We’re given insights into how Crowley and Aziraphale have forged a unique bond over time, making them an ideal team to thwart the apocalypse. Is there another show that delves into past relationships and the quest to save the world from impending doom as we know it?

From a gamer’s perspective, diving into “A Discovery of Witches” might initially seem like an action-packed adventure filled with magical battles between witches, vampires, and demons. However, it soon becomes clear that this series is more than just supernatural combat – it’s a profound exploration of love, survival, and the quest to protect our world from impending doom. It’s about preserving species while challenging outdated rules and restrictions that often seem antiquated in their application.

A Discovery of Witches is on Netflix and AMC+.

Prodigal Son

As a gaming enthusiast delving into uncharted territories, you might find it peculiar at first sight: a crime drama with no superhero cape or apocalyptic backdrop in sight. Yet, there’s an undeniable allure that draws me in – the captivating narrative style. And let me tell you, the addition of Michael Sheen, who breathes life into a character so eccentric it feels surreal, only sweetens the deal.

The series centers around Tom Payne’s character, Malcolm Bright, who is an unconventional FBI profiler who finds himself out of work. Despite not always adhering to the rules, he has a unique ability to perceive things that others overlook. As a result, he takes on a role as a consultant with the NYPD, where he unexpectedly forges strong relationships. Throughout his work, he must confront and overcome his family background, which involves a father who was a notorious serial killer.

Prodigal Son is available to stream on Max.

Doctor Who

I absolutely can’t skip “Doctor Who” on this list. It’s noteworthy because it’s where many fans initially recognized David Tennant. The show shares a striking resemblance in tone with “Good Omens,” particularly in the dynamic of the main characters darting about as they strive to protect Earth and various universes.

Similar to “Good Omens”, this narrative also subtly imparts several valuable lessons. It nurtures empathy and selflessness within us. It underscores the importance of choosing righteousness, even when it may not appear beneficial for everyone involved. Furthermore, much like Crowley’s iconic car, The Doctor has his legendary time-traveling vehicle – the TARDIS.

You can stream Doctor Who on either Max or Disney+, depending on which seasons you’re interested in.

Supernatural

I’m going to end with one of my all-time favorite binge-watches. Supernatural is perfect for Good Omens fans, partly because of the connections to the Apocalypse, and Heaven and Hell fighting against each other. We get God, Lucifer, a version of Crowley, and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

This series explores themes of connections and kinship, extending beyond mere blood relations. It’s a narrative that emphasizes empathy as the world is saved. Characters in this story often falter but learn and grow. They even risk their own wellbeing for the greater good of all mankind.

Supernatural is available to stream on Netflix.

Ghosts (the UK version)

Absolutely! I’m quite fond of the American adaptation, and I wholeheartedly suggest it. However, if you’re seeking something reminiscent of Good Omens, you should give the British version of this series a try. It shares that same unique humor, a wit that seems to be uniquely British in my opinion.

The show chronicles a duo who find themselves owners of an imposing manor, complete with resident ghosts. Interestingly, it’s Allison, the one who acquires the estate, who encounters a brink-of-death situation that allows her to perceive these ethereal beings. Over five seasons, they’ve developed connections, embarked on escapades, and shared their personal narratives with us.

Ghosts is available to stream on Max.
