As a gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating through virtual worlds and embarking on epic quests, I can’t help but feel a rush of excitement as I anticipate the release of “Moana 2.” The first film was an enchanting voyage into the heart of Polynesian mythology, and I’ve been eagerly waiting for more adventures with Moana and Maui.

As the release date for Moana 2 approaches within a few weeks, Disney has unveiled its eagerly awaited prelude song, named “Beyond“.

The strong new melody underscores Moana’s longing and apprehension to heed the ocean’s summons. Auli’i Cravalho, her voice actor, powerfully sings. “What awaits me beyond these skies? / Shall I get lost between what I know and the unknown?

The ballad proceeds, suggesting the question: “Could I venture further, even leaving everything dear / As we forge ahead to shape our people’s destiny?

In the upcoming movie “Moana 2,” the opening track, titled “Beyond,” is sung by Auli’i Cravalho. This song is a new creation from composers Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, marking their debut in the Moana series. They replaced Lin-Manuel Miranda who composed the soundtrack for the original film.

The track uploaded online is an End Credit Version, implying it might have some variations when played in the movie itself.

Three years after the original film, “Moana 2” finds our heroine, Moana, now a seasoned wayfinder, embarking on a fresh adventure following an unforeseen summons from her ancestors. Setting sail across the vast oceans of Oceania with Maui and an assortment of unlikely mariners, they’ll encounter perils unlike any they’ve ever known.

Initially, “Moana 2” was developed as a lengthy TV series for Disney+, but it has since been transformed into a theatrical follow-up. David Derrick Jr., who previously worked as a story artist on “Moana” (2016), “The Lion King” (2019), “Raya and the Last Dragon” (2021), “Encanto” (2021), and “Strange World” (2022), is set to direct his first feature film with this movie.

On November 27, 2024, Moana 2 is set to premiere in cinemas nationwide across the U.S. Historically, Thanksgiving weekends have been a lucrative period for Disney, so it remains to be seen if Moana 2 can rekindle that box office enchantment.
