How Sabrina Carpenter scored Best New Artist Grammy nom despite her SIX albums over past 10 years

As a lifestyle expert with extensive experience in the music industry, I must say that I am both intrigued and impressed by the Grammy nominations this year, particularly in the Best New Artist category. Sabrina Carpenter‘s six nominations are not only well-deserved but also serve as a testament to her resilience and consistent growth in the industry.

On the morning of November 8th, Sabrina Carpenter was nominated for six Grammys, yet one category might have left her dedicated fans in a state of surprise.

I, a diehard fan here, can’t help but shout out about my idol! They were showered with accolades at the awards show: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Solo Album, and Best New Artist nods came their way! What a night to remember!

A performer once associated with Disney, known for five albums before her critically praised Short n’ Sweet album, has been active for about ten years. Her debut single “Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying” was released under Hollywood Records, which is owned by Disney, in the year 2014.

As reported by Billboard, Carpenter’s extensive background in music does not make her ineligible for the nomination of Best New Artist.

According to the publication, the Recording Academy sets a minimum requirement for artists to be eligible in a category: they must have released at least five songs or tracks, or one album. However, there is no upper limit specified for the number of releases.

According to the Grammys’ rulebook, the criteria for Best New Artist nominations focus on when an artist has achieved a breakthrough or gained significant recognition, as decided by a selection panel.

Carpenter has had quite a year since releasing Espresso in April.

Initially, this new release climbed up to the seventh position on the Billboard rankings. It subsequently rose even higher, reaching third place on the Hot 100 list. Ultimately, it ascended to the leading spot on the Global 200 chart.

The single received two nominations; Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.

In June, a song was put forth for the Song of the Year award and climbed to the top spot on the Billboard charts after initially appearing in second position. It was earnestly requested multiple times.

It was nominated for Song of the Year.

Before then, the highest-ranking Carpenter track was “Skin,” which peaked at number 48 on the charts in February 2021.

Since the singer’s long-awaited breakthrough occurred after September 15, 2023, which marked the end of the previous eligibility year, and she hadn’t been nominated for a Grammy before, it was decided that she could be considered for the Best New Artist category.

A similar decision was made for Chappell Roan, who released her first single, Good Hurt, in 2017.

Roan’s first album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, was released September 22, 2023.

Roan and Carpenter, like Taylor Swift, each garnered six nominations within the category of The Tortured Poet’s Department, making a three-way tie.

Carpenter opened for Swift during segments of the Eras tour.

A fan expressed that Sabrina Carpenter is worthy of her partner and added, “She may not be a new artist, but it seems the Grammy Awards are finally acknowledging her talents for the first time,” as they announced the nominees for Best New Artist on the Recording Academy’s Instagram page.

Other fans seemed puzzled by her presence, with one expressing, “Sabrina doesn’t belong here; I adore her, but she’s not a fresh face.

She and Roan will be up against Benson Boon, Doechii, Khruangbin, Raye, Shaboozey and Teddy Swims.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’m thrilled to inform you that the grand reveal of this year’s winners is set to take place during the illustrious Grammy Awards ceremony happening in the vibrant city of Los Angeles on February 2, 2025. Tune into CBS to catch all the excitement unfold live!
