Tom Holland is expected to have a very successful year, potentially making him one of the biggest stars around. Although he started acting in 2012 with the film The Impossible, most people first noticed him in 2016 when he appeared as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, launching his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Tom Holland’s breakout role launched a hugely successful acting career. In just six years, he’s already appeared as Spider-Man in six films. He’s also expanded into voice work with Pixar, starred as Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie, and taken leading roles in several Apple TV+ shows.
Holland’s diverse acting career has quickly made him one of Hollywood’s most successful young stars. His films have already earned over $11 billion worldwide, and with several new projects on the horizon, that number is expected to grow substantially by 2026.
Tom Holland Stars In The Odyssey & Spider-Man: Brand New Day This Summer
Tom Holland is set to have a major summer! After a three-year hiatus from leading roles, he’ll star in two highly anticipated films: Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, releasing July 17th, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31st.
Tom Holland returns as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This will be his fourth standalone movie and seventh appearance as the character, and it’s the first time audiences will see him in the role since the massive success of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. That film exceeded all expectations at the box office, earning $1.9 billion and bringing together the three actors who have played Spider-Man in live-action movies.
I’m really excited about seeing Holland as Telemachus in this new take on The Odyssey! He’s playing the son of Odysseus, who’s being portrayed by Matt Damon. It’s amazing to think this is Christopher Nolan’s next project after the huge success of Oppenheimer – a film that not only did incredibly well in theaters, but also went on to win a ton of awards. I can’t wait to see what he does with this classic story!
Despite being released only two weeks apart, both The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day are predicted to be major box office successes this year. Christopher Nolan’s film, with its impressive cast and large scale, could earn over $1 billion if it lives up to expectations. Sony’s Marvel movie is also expected to easily surpass $1 billion in revenue.
Tom Holland Could Become A Top 10 Highest Grossing Actor If Both Are Box Office Hits
If Tom Holland’s new movies, The Odyssey and Brand New Day, do well, he could easily add over $2 billion to his total box office earnings. That would bring his career total to over $13 billion, with around $12 billion coming from movies where he was the lead (according to The Numbers).
If Tom Holland continues at his current pace, he’ll break into the top 10 highest-grossing lead actors of all time. Zoe Saldaña recently took the number one spot from Scarlett Johansson, and Holland is currently fourteenth with total box office earnings of $9.9 billion. Dwayne Johnson currently holds the tenth position with $11.4 billion.
| Rank | Lead Actor | Career Box Office Total |
|---|---|---|
| 1) | Zoe Saldaña | $15,615,919,486 |
| 2) | Scarlett Johansson | $15,401,507,141 |
| 3) | Samuel L. Jackson | $14,613,700,731 |
| 4) | Robert Downey, Jr. | $14,315,110,840 |
| 5) | Chris Pratt | $14,128,270,037 |
| 6) | Tom Cruise | $12,669,366,862 |
| 7) | Chris Hemsworth | $12,189,865,785 |
| 8) | Vin Diesel | $12,043,063,424 |
| 9) | Chris Evans | $11,489,026,787 |
| 10) | Dwayne Johnson | $11,466,158,582 |
However, Dwayne Johnson isn’t the only actor to watch. His new live-action Moana movie comes out on July 10th, and it’s likely to significantly increase his total box office earnings – he could even reach $1 billion. Plus, if Toy Story 5 is successful, Tom Hanks might climb back into the top 10; he’s currently in 12th place with $10.9 billion in lifetime gross earnings.
Tom Holland is close to becoming one of the top 10 highest-grossing actors of all time, but he likely needs to surpass Vin Diesel, who has earned $12.043 billion at the box office. If Holland’s new movie, The Odyssey, performs as well as Oppenheimer did ($975 million), his other new film, Brand New Day, would only need to earn $1.1 billion to solidify his place in the top 10.
As a huge movie fan, I’m really curious to see if Tom Holland can eventually close the gap – it’s around two billion dollars! – and break into the top ten list of all-time highest-grossing actors. It’ll be interesting to watch his career and see if he can bring some fresh energy to that group.
