Dancing On Ice bosses ‘take drastic action to prevent bullying during the new series after rival Strictly suffered a string of scandals’
As a devoted fan of Dancing On Ice, who has been through the rollercoaster of emotions that comes with following the lives of our favorite stars on reality shows, I must say, it’s heartening to see ITV taking such proactive steps to ensure the well-being and safety of its contestants. The introduction of a 24-hour hotline for stars to voice concerns is a much-needed move in an industry that often overlooks the mental health of its participants.
The organizers of Dancing on Ice are said to have established a 24-hour hotline for celebrities to voice any worries, as a response to the bullying controversy that took place on Strictly Come Dancing.
2025 marks the comeback of the ITV program, and recent reports disclose fresh strategies implemented to curb any instances of harassment or mistreatment on set.
As reported by The Sun, ITV executives have shared a six-page memo with their celebrity roster, assuring them they are free to express themselves without the worry of abusive backlash.
Similar to the role of chaperones on this year’s Strictly, producers will be assigned to this year’s celebrities to oversee their well-being.
According to a source, ITV prioritizes the well-being of their show participants as a top priority. There’s no need for another ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, and the leaders of ‘Dancing on Ice’ want their performers to feel comfortable expressing concerns if something seems amiss.
They’ll be able to contact a round-the-clock helpline staffed by experts, where they can express worries related to bullying or seek assistance for their mental wellbeing.
Additionally, they’ve received a document detailing the expected aspects of the performance and guidelines for their behavior.
According to reports, a letter acquired by the media seems to caution celebrities about participating in the show as it might lead to them feeling both physically and mentally exhausted.
It also warns stars about conduct with their professional skating partners, adding: ‘Winning should never come at the expense of integrity and respect.’
TopMob has contacted representatives for Dancing On Ice for comment.
These actions follow in the wake of controversy surrounding Strictly Come Dancing, the BBC’s competitor to Dancing On Ice, which marked its 20th year. The turmoil began when actress Amanda Abbington abruptly left the show last October and accused her partner Giovanni Pernice of abuse. However, he was later found not guilty of ten out of sixteen accusations brought against him.
The show was then hit with a fresh wave of scandal when Graziano Di Prima was sacked in July for ‘kicking’ his partner, Love Island star Zara McDermott.
This year, the former participant of Dancing on Ice, Michael Barrymore, has alleged that the producers of ITV were involved in some form of mistreatment.
Today, the ex-TV personality, aged 72, launched a harsh attack in a social media post – this action sparked a reaction from ITV, who dismissed his unsupported allegations as the company emphasized that the wellbeing of their show’s celebrities is their utmost concern.
Barrymore posted on X: “I can’t understand why BBC’s #Strictly is being criticized this week when ITV’s Dancing On Ice allegedly treated their celebrities and dancers just as poorly, if not more so. In fact, I myself experienced abusive behavior from producers at ITV during my brief time with them…
But ITV hit back and insisted its stars were looked after while taking part in the programme.
In response to Barrymore’s statements, an ITV representative communicated to TopMob: “We don’t acknowledge these unproven allegations.
Michael had to miss the live performances of Dancing on Ice because he got hurt during practice sessions.
The training occurs at public ice skating arenas, overseen by skating monitors or security personnel, or within our show’s filming studio in Bovingdon, managed by the production team.
Beyond that, it’s common to find independent skating trainers supervising practice sessions. Transparency has always been key for us when it comes to our welfare procedures, and we prioritize helping our cast and crew above all else during our productions. This remains our utmost concern.
After departing from Dancing on Ice, Barrymore expressed that he thoroughly enjoyed every moment he spent on the show when speaking to This Morning.
Sporting a cast on his wrist, he shared with former hosts Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, both known for their role in the popular ice skating program, that it had been a truly remarkable experience.
This year’s lineup for Dancing On Ice includes TOWIE star Ferne McCann, Mollie Pearce from The Traitors, Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave, Coronation Street actor Sam Aston, EastEnders actress Charlie Brooks, and comedian Josh Jones.
Gathered among them are the ex-footballer Anton Ferdinand, actress Chelsee Healey from Hollyoaks, reality TV personality Dan Edgar of TOWIE, Chris Taylor from Love Island, television presenter Michaela Strachan, and Paralympic champion Dame Sarah Storey.
