Cate Blanchett exudes style as she joins the likes of Taika Waititi and Benedict Cumberbatch at the star-studded Letters Live fundraiser
As a seasoned observer of the arts and entertainment scene, I must say that the event at KOKO was nothing short of extraordinary. The caliber of talent assembled under one roof was truly astounding, with luminaries like Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, and Damian Lewis gracing us with their presence.
At the high-profile Letters Live charity event in London, Cate Blanchett showcased elegance alongside famous personalities such as Taika Waititi and Benedict Cumberbatch.
On Thursday, an occasion happened in Camden, purposefully organized for The KOKO Foundation. This gathering drew numerous famous figures, among them an Australian Academy Award-winning celebrity.
55-year-old Cate opted for a toned-down look in the evening, wearing a black and navy denim jacket paired with jeans of the same hue.
She finished off her look with black sparkly chunky shoes and donned a pair of silver spectacles.
Joining Cate, Taika, and Benedict at the event were Minnie Driver, formerly known as FKA Twigs, Marisa Abela, Richard Gadd, and Damian Lewis.
27-year-old Marisa, the star of “Back To Black”, gracefully embodied elegant evening style by wearing a spacious, dark-brown suit equipped with shoulder pads.
Marisa’s dark hair was pushed over her shoulders and secured near her ears, revealing two delicate gold hoop earrings.
While actress Minnie, known for her role in Ella Enchanted and aged 54, exuded elegance in a stylish navy midi-dress featuring a racer neckline, she complemented the look with a woven brown belt adorned with braids.
Minne neatly gathered her dark hair into a stylish bun, and complemented the dress by wearing nude-toned leather platform sandals.
FKA Twigs meanwhile showed off her incredible figure in a daring sheer brown bodysuit.
The blouse was matched with a snug, waist-hugging midi skirt that fell just below the knee, along with a pair of sleek black stiletto boots. Her hair was arranged in braids.
49-year-old New Zealand director and filmmaker Taika showcased an elegant look in a well-tailored teal suit, complemented by a white shirt.
Taika finished off his ensemble with a chain necklace and black brogue shoes for the evening.
48-year-old Benedict, who plays Sherlock Holmes, donned a fashionably smart suit reminiscent of the character’s style, choosing a khaki-toned one this time.
Benedict donned a suit, a white open-collar shirt, and black footwear while standing next to Sophie Pasetti, the CEO of The KOKO Foundation, for the photo.
As I found myself among the gathering, I spotted none other than the talented author and performer, Richard, aged 35, who effortlessly maintained a laid-back vibe in a stylish, blue-hued Ben Sherman shirt, complete with sleeves artfully folded up.
53-year-old actor Damian Kucharzewski, who is famously known for his role on Homeland, was spotted looking sharp in a sleek dark grey blazer and stylish houndstooth pants.
Meanwhile Riz Ahmed looked stylish in a red dogtooth overshirt paired with a turtleneck top.
The evening was introduced by he KOKO Foundation CEO Sophie, who said: ‘Tonight is the culmination of over two years’ work, when KOKO Foundation was created to be a unique force for good, contributing to the community that KOKO is a part of.
Working alongside our latest Environmental Ambassador, Benedict Cumberbatch, as well as the Letters Live team and numerous talented performers, we aim to develop significant environmental initiatives and programs that emphasize the environment, youth, and future artists.
In conversation regarding the KOKO Foundation, Benedict expressed: “It’s truly awe-inspiring to observe the profound effect the Foundation has subtly made over the last few years, bringing about genuine and enduring transformation within Camden.
Tonight serves as just a glimpse into the significant impact the Foundation can make, when united in support of meaningful initiatives. I’m thrilled and dedicated to expanding the exceptional efforts already underway and increasing the reach of our foundation’s work across the nation and globally.
Letters Live presents a special show format where renowned individuals perform the reading of either historical or personal letters, making those writings come alive on stage.
As the worldwide representative for environmental activism at the KOKO Foundation, Benedict recently perused a letter penned by Edward Abbey in 1986, expressing his disapproval of being solicited for recommendations on off-road excursions.
Meanwhile, Minnie acted out a letter penned by BAFTA-winning author Sharon Horgan, which was addressed to the men who were significant in her life, and composed in the year 2016.
As a devoted fan, I recently came across a letter penned by Irvine Welsh, the brilliant mind behind Trainspotting, addressed to film producer Andrew Macdonald. This missive was penned back in 1995.
In the 1940s, FKA Twigs enacted a piece based on a letter penned by Cuban diarist Anaïs Nin, titled “Sex does not flourish in monotony,” which she sent to American author Henry Miller.
In simple terms, Cate read a heartfelt letter penned by the American writer, Helen Keller, in 1924. She wrote this letter to express gratitude towards the New York Symphony Orchestra for delivering an outstanding performance of Beethoven’s ‘Ninth Symphony’.
At the event, Idris Elba took part as well, delivering a letter penned by the renowned American saxophonist and bandleader John Coltrane. Simultaneously, Damian read a heartfelt letter written by crime novelist John le Carré to his wife. Lastly, Ghetts captivated everyone with an emotional spoken word rendition of his song Double Standards.
During the event, both The Cavemen and Celeste provided musical performances. Finally, Wyclef Jean took the stage for a 10-minute medley of his greatest hits to conclude the show.
KOKO established their Foundation with the ambition and dedication to make Camden more eco-friendly, while also providing chances for underprivileged youth through art classes and musical scholarships.
Via various environmental initiatives, the organization has helped plant approximately 40% of newly grown trees in Camden, while also establishing a sustainable funding and job model through a team of local youth called ‘KOKO Foresters’. These young community members are trained and employed to manage and maintain the projects throughout the year.
Over the past year, the Foundation has collaborated with several estates in Camden, leading a remarkable tree-planting initiative that saw more than 100 trees being planted across 11 estates and 26 schools. This project is part of our efforts to encourage natural growth and enhance local environments.
