BBC shares first clip of Claire Foy in returning drama
As a seasoned gamer of historical dramas, I must confess, my heart skipped a beat upon hearing the news about “Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light”. Nine years in the making, it’s like waiting for an epic quest’s final expansion pack! The first series was a masterpiece that transported us into the intricate world of Tudor England.
The BBC unveiled the initial sneak peek for the eagerly awaited second installment of “Wolf Hall,” resuming after the beheading of Anne Boleyn, portrayed by Claire Foy.
In 2015, a highly praised historical drama was initially unveiled. This production chronicled the life and intrigues of Thomas Cromwell (played by Mark Rylance), who navigated the political landscape within the court of King Henry VIII (portrayed by Damian Lewis) during the Tudor era in England.
After a span of nine years, the subsequent series titled “The Mirror and the Light” continues promptly following Anne Boleyn’s execution, with the monarch preparing to marry Jane Seymour, portrayed by Kate Phillips.
Before the series debut on November 10, the BBC has released a nearly five-minute preview of the upcoming season. The clip combines footage from Anne’s execution (shown in the final episode of the previous series) with scenes of Henry and Jane’s wedding.
Despite being recognized with nominations for a Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice Award, and BAFTA TV Award for her exceptional performance, Foy is not included in the cast list for The Mirror and the Light. However, there are some familiar faces returning, such as Jonathan Pryce and Thomas Brodie-Sangster.
Additionally, Peter Straughan and Peter Kosminsky are credited as writer and director, and Kosminsky is thrilled to have the chance to bring Hilary Mantel’s renowned book to life on screen.

According to Kosminsky, “The Mirror and the Light” continues right where “Wolf Hall” left off, following the execution of Henry VIII’s second wife, Anne Boleyn. I’m thrilled to bring back the talented cast we had for “Wolf Hall”.
Our team boasts the talents of Mark Rylance and Damian Lewis, along with the original creative minds Gavin Finney (cinematographer), Pat Campbell (set designer), and Joanna Eatwell (costume designer). We’re all committed to bringing this project to a satisfying conclusion, as we aim to pay tribute to the last novel penned by one of the most esteemed literary icons of our era, Hilary Mantel.
The much-anticipated series “Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light” will make its debut this coming Sunday, November 10th, airing at 9 PM sharp, both on BBC One and their streaming platform, BBC iPlayer.
