The innocent comment that sparked avalanche of memes: How Gary Barlow’s praise of son for staying out of the limelight made him a viral sensation
As a seasoned observer of the entertainment world, I find the story of Gary Barlow and his towering children to be quite intriguing. While many celebrities’ offspring often follow in their famous parents’ footsteps, it seems that the Barlows are carving out their own unique paths.
Being a dad to three wonderful kids, it’s only natural that Gary Barlow has lauded his loved ones.
However, a heartwarming family photo featuring the Take That member might accidentally ignite a social media storm, as it depicts his son standing taller than him, causing an uproar on various platforms.
Gary, aged 53, typically prefers to avoid the limelight when it comes to his private affairs. However, a family photograph shared on Instagram sparked widespread attention, with a humorous Twitter post about it being seen over six million times.
Back in June, the singer initially posted the picture to celebrate Father’s Day. He mentioned then that such family photos were not common on his social media.
Over the past weekend, I was fortunate enough to catch a glimpse into the personal life of my idol, Gary, as he shared an image featuring him, his son Daniel, the lovely Daisy (who’s just 15!), and the woman who has been his partner for 25 beautiful years, Dawn Andrews. This heartwarming snapshot was taken during their recent holiday escape – a moment that made my fangirling heart skip a beat!
In the caption, Gary playfully expressed his permission for Father’s Day by saying, “On this special day, could I possibly share some family photos? I hope so!
Despite accumulating an estimated £90 million fortune over the course of his career, Barlow appears to be noticeably shorter than his son in the heartwarming photograph.
Earlier this week, when that picture reappeared on X, it was seen over six million times in a fun, playful tweet.
Memes have since flooded the internet with jokes about Daniel’s height – but in reality, the 24-year-old is only a few inches taller than the average British man.
The average height for a man in the UK is 5’9, and 5’3 for a woman.
Daniel, who’s aiming for a career in medicine, stands tall at 6’2″, yet appears even taller when standing alongside his relatively shorter father.
Famous dad Barlow is only a few inches shorter than average, at 5’7.
In the photo, shared just after Barlow commemorated his son’s victory in the Ironman contest, you can see a heartwarming scene of father and son embracing each other. This incredible event required him to swim 2.4 miles, cycle 112 miles, and run 26.2 miles.
He wrote: ‘We just couldn’t be prouder of our boy – unbelievable amounts of training and determination – when you put in the work you get the results. Congratulations #ironman.’
But the photo went viral, with many commenting ‘Gary Barhigh’ below.
In a humorous twist, memes liken the given image to a situation from the Elf movie, where the oversized Buddy character finds it challenging to adjust at the North Pole due to everything being miniature compared to him.
Caption reads: “A miniature phone being scrutinized by what appears to be Gary Barlow’s son, surrounded by various memes on Twitter.
It was held in a hand which looks huge in comparison.
‘Take That singer Gary Barlow seeking a hug from his son as bedtime approached, as seen in a heartwarming on-stage moment where he opened his arms.’
People shared pictures of the celebrity posing with items that resembled clothing, like a checkered backdrop, accompanied by the caption: “Gary Barlow in front of his son’s new sweater.
References were also made to how 6’2 Donald Trump’s son Barron – who is 18-years-old – also towers over him at an impressive height of 6’7.
Back in 2022, the singer shared another rare snap of his towering son for his 22nd birthday.
He wrote: ‘Happy 22nd Birthday to our Dan. We love you mate and you make us so proud every day’.
He has his arm around Daniel’s waist, with his head barely above his shoulder.
Barlow has three kids together with his spouse Dawn, a backup dancer who toured with Take That back in 1995 and later married her in the year 2000.
Earlier, the music creator expressed that his kids, unlike him, exhibit no inclination towards show business and instead prefer pursuing academic paths.
He shared with The Mirror: “The eldest two, Daniel and Emily, seem to be focusing on medicine and physiology, specifically exploring strength and conditioning. As for Daisy, our youngest, I can’t quite predict her path yet, but she’s definitely a dedicated student… unlike myself and my spouse.
I believe they won’t continue in the path of my musical career, yet I wouldn’t have stopped them had they expressed interest. In fact, I’ve found success in this field, and it would not be unwelcome if they decided to venture here too.
Each day, I continue to revel in my work, and finding joy in knowing that it provides for me is truly remarkable. There are countless professions within the entertainment industry that I find incredibly rewarding, and I believe my world pales in comparison to the challenges faced elsewhere.
Previously, the songwriter behind “The Shine” expressed his sense of pride when Emily made the decision to attend university for a four-year program in 2022.
Originally, the teenager intended to pursue higher education in 2020, but those plans were disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In that moment, Barlow expressed to Zoe Ball on her BBC radio program: “They are quite capable, one is attending university. One is having a gap year, initially intended for university but has changed her mind due to the current circumstances, and I wholeheartedly empathize with her decision.
At this point, our youngest one is eleven years old, which feels more like they’ve grown beyond childhood, yet they will forever remain children in our eyes.
In 2012, the Barlow family suffered a tragic loss when their newborn daughter, Poppy, was born still. To this day, they have not yet found peace in accepting this heartbreaking event.
On The Imperfects podcast, the artist openly discussed his personal struggle related to his family tragedy, admitting that he rarely delves into it deeply as he is still trying to make sense of it.
In a stark contrast to my feelings, my spouse’s emotions seemed utterly distinct. For quite some time now, I’ve harbored anger over this matter, and I must confess, I haven’t quite managed to find tranquility in accepting it yet.
