Outer Banks season 4 episode 10 is the best, and most heartbreaking, yet (An A+ finale review)
As a gamer who’s been through his fair share of rollercoasters, let me tell you, the Outer Banks season 4 finale was one heck of a ride! I’ve seen my share of twists and turns in games and shows, but this one took the cake. Or should I say, it broke my heart into a thousand pieces.
Wow, you guys! I’m at a loss for words right now. The emotions are running high and, sadly, not in a good way. The finale of Outer Banks season 4 is simply outstanding, one of the best episodes this series has ever produced. Yet, it’s also the most heart-wrenching episode we’ve experienced so far. Let’s dive into our review of the last episode of Outer Banks, titled “The Blue Crown.
Wow, it seems like Groff had countless opportunities where he could have been eliminated, yet this ruthless individual appears to be indestructible. For instance, when he was once again under Dalia and her gang’s control. One would think they’d simply end his life right then and there. However, they didn’t. Instead, we find ourselves in Morocco, where Lightner mercilessly beats him up quite severely. Frankly, it was satisfying to watch given the circumstances. Yet, I can’t help but wonder if my enjoyment makes me a less than ideal person. I’m not sure.
Later on, Rafe arrives and rescues him. In all honesty, if only Rafe had been a bit more cooperative with the Pogues, he could have stayed with them, found the Blue Crown, and recovered his lost money. If not for Rafe’s intervention, Groff might very well be dead as we speak. But here’s the thing, even after being trapped in the well, this sly character somehow manages to escape. I mean, really, how?
Man, JJ continued to break my heart and he just was dealt such a bad hand in life. Groff is such a psychopath and the most selfish person I’ve ever seen. I mean, Big John and Ward were not the best fathers and messed up in their own ways. But at least they cared about their kids. This guy has no feelings towards JJ at all. I just can’t. That moment at the well between them though felt like an important scene for JJ. In a way, it was him finding closure and he got what he needed to say off his chest.
I wish it made a difference though. At the end, Groff proved just how frighteningly terrible he is. He’s the one who stabs our beloved JJ, and it’s all because of him that he’s now gone. This is truly the most heartbreaking scene and plot twist we have ever experienced in Outer Banks history. As I’m typing this I still have not full processed what happened and that JJ is actually gone. Can someone hand me some tissues, please? And something to kill Groff with. We don’t condone violence here guys, but this man has made us all so angry!
This season, I’ve been critical of JJ due to his impulsive choices, but my affection for him as a character has remained unwavering. Just like his friends, I see him as a complex individual – despite his moments of recklessness, he is loyal, intelligent, and consistently supportive of his Pogue companions. After enduring so much, JJ finally tasted the fruits of his labor – love, camaraderie, and a sense of belonging. However, he deserved more considering all the struggles and effort he’s invested. The thought that his death is irreversible makes it even harder to bear.
In the finale of season 4 in the OBX, there were significant advancements worth noting. It appears that Rafe and Sarah might have reconciled, which could mean Rafe may collaborate more effectively with his brother John B, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo in future endeavors. Given the Pogues’ pursuit of revenge, it’s likely that Rafe will join them on their treasure hunt/manhunt to claim a share of the Blue Crown, now held by Groff. As for John B and Sarah, if they have a son, there’s speculation that they might name him JJ as a tribute to their late friend.
1) Additionally, Cleo exacted her revenge on Captain Terrance by having Pope eliminate Lightner. Farewell to him. Moreover, many of Dalia’s crew were defeated by the Pogues. However, she’s still alive and may join Groff in Lisbon to secure the treasure for this Finch character. On a related note, I found the Moroccan atmosphere in this episode quite appealing. Yet, when the sandstorm approached, I couldn’t help but chuckle at the group’s misfortune. I mean, really, every possible challenge seems to befall them one after another. Oh my!
In my own words, here’s how I would rephrase:
It was a big gamble for the writers to pursue this plotline, and discussing season 5 of Outer Banks without JJ feels unimaginable. However, from a narrative standpoint, it’s quite impactful, even though it’s heart-wrenching. I suspect we’ll find the characters driven by revenge and mourning the loss of their friend, rather than solely focused on treasure. Given their many perilous encounters, it was inevitable that they would face such a tragic outcome eventually. Now, I guess I’ll be moving on to wipe away my tears. Episode grade level: A+!
