Outer Banks season 4 episode 7 features all the elements that make OBX so great! (Review)

As a fan who has been following the thrilling twists and turns of Outer Banks since its debut, I must say that season 4 episode 7 was nothing short of exhilarating! The revelation that Groff is JJ’s biological father, and his involvement with the mysterious crew led by Captain Lightner, added a new layer of intrigue to an already captivating narrative.

In the sixth episode of Outer Banks season 4, JJ arrives at Groff’s door in search of answers regarding Luke’s alleged parentage. Is Groff truthful about his claim? The confrontation between them is set to unfold in the upcoming episode 7, titled “Mothers and Fathers.” Here’s our review of the intriguing events that transpire in this episode, but beware of potential spoilers ahead.

Initially, Groff politely refutes everything JJ claims, implying that while it would be fortunate to consider him his son, that isn’t the reality. Yet, unexpectedly, Captain Lightner, along with their crew, arrives on Goat Island, revealing a hidden bond between them and Groff – a connection we’re only now discovering!

It’s only when he’s in a tight spot and requires JJ’s assistance that Groff eventually admits, yes, he is JJ’s biological father. I have to say, his knack for deception is unparalleled. Yet, despite JJ’s remarkable intuition, it takes him some time to discern when Groff is being dishonest. As the conversation progresses, Groff becomes increasingly agitated and starts talking more rapidly, much like JJ does under pressure. Nevertheless, I can’t help but harbor doubts about his trustworthiness. It transpires that Groff was the one who murdered Omar, the individual discovered dead on the beach, who also happened to be part of the Captain’s crew. Remarkably, Groff had been collaborating with them and was a member of their group. Fascinating, isn’t it?

Incidentally, it’s amusing how in films and TV shows, characters like Groff are being pursued by dangerous individuals, yet Lightner continually shouts his name expecting a response. In real life, one doesn’t simply reveal their whereabouts when someone is trying to harm them! This scene, with JJ on the run from her enemies while talking to her biological father for the first time after revealing the truth, seems perfectly fitting. It’s intriguing how these situations often unfold in unexpected ways, isn’t it?

Sure thing, let’s get back to discussing Groff. I find him peculiar and frankly, I doubt his story about having to leave JJ. After all, Larissa passed away and he claims he didn’t know how to care for himself, let alone a baby. With family members like his grandfather, Wes Genrette, around, it just doesn’t add up. It sounds fishy to me, man. He comes off as insincere. Only time will reveal the truth.

But he sees Blackbeard’s Blue Crown as a part of their family legacy, and that’s why he’s after it. Hmm. Sure. Again, I don’t think that’s his true motivation. Also, he was the one behind Wes’ death. He admits to JJ he made up the whole ghost thing and it was a bit a theatrical production he put on himself. That’s very shady behavior. These past two episodes have been really JJ-centric, which I don’t mind because this is such a big storyline for him.

In the fourth season of “Outer Banks,” during episode 7, Pope finds himself in a fortunate situation yet faces restrictions such as living with his parents and wearing an ankle monitor before trial. The judge also warns him against associating with friends. However, it’s clear that this arrangement won’t last long. Moreover, an unexpected development arises when Sarah is revealed to be pregnant. This twist caught me off guard, considering the brief mention in episode 5 about buying a house and having children. I must admit, I didn’t anticipate such an early hint at this plotline. Frankly, I’m left feeling somewhat stunned and unsure of how to feel about it. I think I need some time to digest this new storyline.

The climax of the episode undoubtedly had me hooked, as John B, Sarah, and Kiara bravely searched for JJ amidst the mercenaries. John B’s initial attempt to toss the flare bottle comically backfired, but the second time around it paid off! Watching them rescue JJ and flee was exhilarating. To top it all off, Groff managed to survive – suspenseful as ever!

I must say, the seventh episode of Outer Banks season 4 ranks among my favorites so far this season. The intrigue surrounding JJ’s past was expertly unraveled, and those mercenaries certainly make for formidable adversaries. It was action-packed, thrilling, and full of suspense – exactly what makes Outer Banks so captivating! I appreciated the balanced pacing, and it’s keeping me on the edge of my seat as we move closer to unveiling these mysteries. Overall, an incredibly enjoyable episode that earns an A-grade in my book.
