Sorry, but Outer Banks season 4 episode 8 is kind of boring (Review)

As a die-hard fan of the Outer Banks series, I must confess that episode 8 of season 4 left me feeling a tad underwhelmed compared to its brilliant predecessor. It was like they served me a mouthwatering feast with the previous episode and then handed me a plate of plain oatmeal for this one.

Despite the impressive quality of episode 7, it’s unfortunate that episode 8 of Outer Banks felt a bit underwhelming next to it. I didn’t find it as enjoyable, and delving into the critique of “Family Plot,” we’ll discuss why. SPOILERS AHEAD.

In this significant installment, Chandler Groff’s character becomes crucial since it uncovers his real intentions. It’s deeply sad and frustrating that he shows no concern for JJ. After all, JJ has already suffered a less-than-ideal father in Luke, and now Groff has added to his disappointments as well. Truly, this man is the embodiment of filth.

Initially, he devises a complex strategy to retrieve the scroll from the Pogues, which includes framing JJ for Hollis’ murder and involving the police, all while trapping Kiara in a cell. In the subsequent episode, I understand that Hollis served as a plot device, connecting Rafe to Morocco and enabling him to recover his money from Groff. However, it seems to me that her character didn’t seem essential to the storyline.

However, what Groff did goes beyond just the incident you mentioned. He was in fact responsible for Larissa’s death, which wasn’t due to drowning as people might think. Moreover, he later pushed JJ off the boat. It seems that all of this was done for monetary gain, since with no other members of the Genrette family left alive, Groff believed he would inherit Goat Island. However, contrary to what Groff told Hollis, the will stipulates that the property is to become a nature preserve and be handed over to the state, which Groff clearly wouldn’t want.

Despite leading a comfortable and prosperous life with Larissa and the Genrettes, it’s hard to comprehend why he would choose to harm them. It seems like greed might have driven him, but even that wealth didn’t seem to be enough for him. Goodness, I can hardly believe this man right now. In a surprising turn of events, he returns to the Captain and his mercenaries in an attempt to save his own life, despite having deceived them once before. Poor JJ, my heart is filled with sympathy for him.

For me, the most delightful moment in the episode was watching Sarah and John B acting so adorably. She reveals her pregnancy to him, and despite their fear, they are joyful and he comforts Sarah, promising they’ll find a way as they always do. What a pair! They even decide to go to City Hall to make their union official. How sweet! However, the city hall is closed due to JJ’s rampage through town, and of course, the irritating Kooks make an appearance. Oh, so annoying!

Look, I do not condone violence but someone please go beat the living daylights out of this Ruthie girl. I couldn’t stand her from the beginning, and I definitely cannot anymore now. Why all this hate? Chill out, girl. John B, Sarah, Cleo, and eventually Pope end up running away from the Kooks just like old times. Sigh. And I knew Pope was not going into the military, and he even goes as far as breaking his ankle monitor off.

In my previous comments, I pointed out that the Groff-related content was crucial for the plot development but seemed excessively drawn out in Episode 8 of Outer Banks Season 4. It appears the writers are heavily emphasizing the Pogues’ journey in Morocco, and while some scenes could have been shortened to create a more engaging storyline. Frankly, I grew tired of the Groff storyline fairly quickly as his shady nature was evident from the beginning. Admittedly, I found myself rather bored throughout most of Episode 8. Based on my viewing experience, I would rate this episode a C. What are your thoughts?
