Outer Banks season 4 finale spoilers: Is [Spoiler] really dead?
As a gamer who’s seen more than his fair share of plot twists and character deaths, I must say that the demise of JJ in Outer Banks season 4 took me by surprise. I’ve played games where you think your character is invincible, only to find out they can indeed die, but JJ’s death felt like a punch in the gut.
Warning: The following post contains major spoilers from the season 4 finale of Outer Banks.
As we approach the last episode of Outer Banks season 4, anticipation builds for an extraordinary conclusion. The co-creators have teased that this finale is a lengthy, standalone episode they’ve described as “the best and most impactful” in the series so far.
Indeed, it’s exciting to announce that we’ve reached the midpoint of season 4, and without a doubt, the final episode promises to be the most impactful and thrilling installment yet! The climax of the season unfolds in an epic fashion, wrapping up the storylines as all major characters converge in a dramatic showdown during the pursuit of the Blue Crown.
Once more, The Pogues found themselves in a perilous predicament, as it became clear that Dalia and her hired guns were ruthless in their pursuit of the Blue Crown for their benefactor. The ensuing battle was intense, with both sides engaging in fierce combat, putting the lives of The Pogues at risk multiple times as they struggled to survive and locate the elusive crown.
There were several instances during the finale where it appeared as though the Pogues might not survive. Cleo was shot in the shoulder and John B came close to being strangled by a mercenary. Remarkably, they managed to escape death yet again, engaging in combat with Dalia. Yet, an unexpected danger emerged: Groff posed a more significant threat.
Following my unfortunate encounter with Rafe that ended with me trapped in a well by JJ and the Pogues, I miraculously found the strength to dig myself out. Once freed, I hitched a lift from some good samaritans and made my way to Agapenta where I surprised Kiara, ready to exact my revenge.
In the grip of Kiara with a knife, JJ enters and tries to ease the tension. It’s evident that Groff desires only the Blue Crown, which JJ surrenders to save Kiara’s life. With the crown secured, you might assume this would satisfy Groff; but he demonstrates his cruel nature by stabbing JJ in the abdomen as punishment for his decision to abandon him in the well.
Does JJ die in Outer Banks season 4?
Following Groff’s stabbing of JJ and his escape with the crown, it swiftly becomes evident that the injury sustained by JJ is severe. Bleeding profusely, JJ crumples to the ground, yet in this critical moment, it’s difficult to accept that this could be the final chapter for JJ, given his past experiences of escaping death multiple times throughout the series. However, this appears to be just another brush with mortality, doesn’t it? Regrettably, this is not the case.
Unexpectedly, a major character from Outer Banks, named JJ, met his tragic end. This heartrending event occurred due to actions taken by Groff, leaving Kiara grief-stricken as she held him in his last moments. Among the many emotional scenes in the series’ four-season span, this one stood out as particularly poignant and left viewers with moist eyes during the heart-wrenching finale.
As JJ understood the severity of his injury, he confided in Kiara by expressing that everything he desired had been granted, asking her to look after the remaining members of the Pogues on his behalf. With a final breath, he whispered “I love you” to Kiara one last time.
If there remained any suspicion that this was a staged death, such doubts were swiftly dispelled as we transitioned to a collection of JJ’s most memorable moments, which John B used to honor his friend. Following this, the group buried their friend’s remains in the sand, and the season concluded with the Pogues pledging to seek justice for their deceased comrade.
There’s no denying that JJ’s demise has been the most impactful death in the series so far and it’s drastically altered the expected course of events for the show’s finale. What we previously believed would be a climactic treasure hunt, now appears to be a season driven by revenge, as the Pogues seek retribution for their lost friend.
The upcoming season will likely be filled with both joy and sadness, as it’s tough to envision the finale without JJ, a character who, despite his imperfections, has served as the emotional core of the Pogues from the very beginning.
