Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, is coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in multiple projects, including a special called The Punisher: One Last Kill. This special will premiere on Disney+ on May 12th, just one week after the season finale of Daredevil: Born Again.
The Punisher will appear in an upcoming MCU project called One Last Kill before appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He was recently confirmed as part of the Brand New Day cast and even appeared in the movie’s trailer. Both One Last Kill and Brand New Day are expected to be part of Phase Six of the MCU, suggesting the Punisher will be an important character in future stories.
But one idea about what the title One Last Kill really means could change what we expect from the Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This theory proposes that the ‘last kill’ might actually be the Punisher ending his own life.
This Fan Theory Suggests Frank Castle Could Be The Titular Last Kill
Details about the plot of One Last Kill are still scarce, but the title itself suggests a dark turn of events. Fans were disappointed to learn the Punisher won’t be in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. Interestingly, One Last Kill is still listed as part of the Daredevil: Born Again release plan.
This connection between the two shows is intriguing, but it doesn’t reveal much about what this new special will be about. The title hints at a character facing serious consequences, but within the overall story of the Punisher, that’s not unexpected.
The open-ended title, One Last Kill, has sparked a lot of speculation. Some fans think it suggests the Punisher will finally get complete revenge for his family’s murder, while others believe it hints that he might retire from his life as a vigilante after one final battle.
Another idea suggests the title might hint at the Punisher’s death. While that would be a surprising twist, it’s also a bit disheartening, especially considering his current importance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and his upcoming movie, Brand New Day. Because of these things, it’s probably not the direction the story will take.
The Punisher’s MCU Future Makes It Unlikely He Will Die (For Now)
We don’t yet know exactly when One Last Kill takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it will likely be set before the events of Brand New Day. The MCU has shown it’s comfortable with stories that jump around in time – Black Widow was released after Natasha Romanoff’s death in Avengers: Endgame – but releasing One Last Kill before Brand New Day wouldn’t make sense unless it happened earlier in the timeline.
Considering his planned involvement in the upcoming Brand New Day project, it’s highly unlikely the Punisher will die in One Last Kill. While anything can happen with Marvel stories, it seems almost certain he’ll survive and continue his violent path in the new series.
It’s unclear if the final battle in One Last Kill will be the Punisher’s last act of revenge, or if another important character will die. However, the story will likely have unexpected twists for viewers, and it’s improbable that The Punisher: One Last Kill will permanently end the story of this popular character.
