Married At First Sight mum Melissa Rawson reveals her heartbreaking childcare drop-off experience
As a lifestyle expert who has been through the rollercoaster ride of motherhood myself, I can wholeheartedly empathize with Melissa Rawson‘s heartfelt post about childcare guilt. It’s an emotional journey that many parents navigate, and it’s comforting to see someone as relatable as Melissa sharing her struggles.
Married at First Sight’s Melissa Rawson recently penned an understandable social media post discussing the common feelings of guilt associated with motherhood and childcare responsibilities.
31-year-old Melissa posted an old video where she was seen crying in her car following the drop-off of her boys, Levi (aged 3) and Tate (also 3), at a nursery in Melbourne.
The mum-of-two found love with husband Bryce Ruthven on season eight of the reality show.
In the video she shared in 2023, Melissa expressed her feelings as we reached our third day of childcare orientation. She questioned whether it was more challenging for herself or Levi, her partner in this journey.
According to the video’s title, Melissa stated that she made the video prior to their relocation to the Gold Coast.
Outside the daycare center, Melissa filmed herself crying from her car, expressing her deep sense of guilt about returning to work and leaving her son behind.
She expressed that Levi seems struggling with it, while fighting back tears. Despite her belief that he’ll adapt over time, she frequently finds herself feeling inadequate as a mother.
“I understand that I’m giving it my all, and I believe this is what’s best for him. Unfortunately, I need to return to work now.
The self-described mummy blogger has maintained a strong following years after her 2020 appearance on MAFS, because of her candid revelations about parenting and unfiltered confessionals.
Yet, certain posts of hers have drawn criticism from internet bullies, as they disapprove of her straightforward style in sharing content.
Melissa was crying as she said, ‘I must return to work full-time, and it’s devastating because he keeps making such loud noises.’
She explained how her heart broke upon hearing her son calling out for her repeatedly.
‘I just left Levi again and he’s screaming for me. Mum, mum, mum. I don’t know what to do.’
As an over-the-moon fan, I’d rephrase that as: “Melissa confided in me that she felt mortified about losing her composure and breaking down in the presence of other parents and staff at the daycare.
She regretfully admitted, ‘Indeed, it’s me who often gets emotional around my colleagues in childcare settings. When will things become less challenging for me?’
With her hands covering her eyes, the ex-MAFS bride sobbed openly.
In her latest post, Melissa shared that the twins have begun attending a new daycare center this week, as they now reside on the Gold Coast.
Today marks the twins’ second day, and I find myself feeling remarkably similar to how I was last year. The main difference this time around is that they’ve grown older and are now more cognizant of my absence – they understand better that I might not return immediately or at all.
‘In saying that, I’m lucky to be able to have all of this in the first place’.
Followers were quick to share words of support and explain how normal it is to have ‘mum guilt.’
One mother shared this piece of wisdom from her experience: ‘In my opinion, transitions should happen swiftly. Prolonging your time together to comfort the child may actually make things more difficult for the two of you in the long run.’
Others suggested that Melissa try having her spouse, Bryce, make drop-offs as a way to foster connections with the caregivers, and they reassured her that the situation would improve over time.
One follower commented, ‘Your feelings indicate that you’re not an inadequate mother.’ They further explained, ‘Caring for children can be challenging initially, but over time, they grow to enjoy spending time with their peers and having enjoyable experiences at daycare.’
In a simpler, more conversational style: The woman from Season 8, aged 35, has two young sons that she shares with her partner Bryce Ruthven. They first met during a dating experiment on Channel Nine.
During the dramatic eighth season of MAFS, the relationship between Bryce and Melissa stirred up a lot of debate and controversy, with Bryce often being seen as one of the most contentious grooms.
He gained a negative reputation, being referred to as ‘toxic’, following his comment on the show that Melissa didn’t appeal to him, which sparked intense criticism from viewers.
Last February, Melissa and Bryce held their coastal wedding ceremony in the beautiful town of Sorrento, Victoria, making their union official under the law.
