Mercedes Mone is right about AEW hosting an all-women’s PPV
As a seasoned gamer who has witnessed the evolution of the wrestling world over the years, I can wholeheartedly endorse the idea of an all-women’s pay-per-view event in All Elite Wrestling (AEW). The raw talent and charisma that women wrestlers bring to the ring is nothing short of phenomenal.
Women’s wrestling is a draw. While some may argue that statement, there are several examples from this and recent years that show women’s wrestling and the personalities within it have the ability to pull in the eyeballs. This is why so many fans get upset when it is not positioned in a way for success, like the males on the roster. The idea of an all-women’s PPV event comes up every year, with WWE Evolution being the only attempt in a mainstream promotion. Well, Mercedes Mone is calling for All Elite Wrestling to do one as well, and it’s an idea that should at least be tested.
In simpler terms, Mone expressed during an interview with Tom and Eli on Battleground that our roster is packed with female wrestlers. She believes that if given the opportunity by Tony [Khan], we could witness a significant change in AEW, a women’s revolution. She emphasized that these women have been consistently delivering outstanding performances week after week.
Mone has had some involvement in women’s-only events. Back on October 28, 2018, she (then going by Sasha Banks) teamed up with Bayley and Natalya to beat the Riott Squad – composed of Liv Morgan, Ruby Riott, and Sarah Logan – in a match called Evolution.
The initial and sole WWE event exclusively featuring female performers was met with significant criticism by many, as it was perceived as a response to the exclusion of women in the original cards held in Saudi Arabia. Fans voiced strong disapproval towards WWE for numerous issues related to these events.
It’s been six years since that time, and the wrestling world has undergone a significant transformation. The WWE is experiencing unprecedented success, while All Elite Wrestling continues to flourish. Other companies are also seeing growth, yet major promotions are hesitant to organize an all-women’s event.
In an all-women’s show for AEW, Mercedes Mone and Mariah May would likely serve as the main hosts, given their prestigious titles as TBS and Women’s World Champions respectively. Their storylines would undoubtedly be among the most captivating, with a potential match between Mercedes Mone and Kris Statlander being particularly exciting. The show could also feature a rematch between Mariah May and Toni Storm, and find a way to involve Mina Shirakawa in the mix as well. Additionally, it’s crucial that we include Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion, ATHENA, as she is widely regarded as one of the best women’s world champions across wrestling by many fans.
Completing the remainder of the form should be straightforward. AEW features stars such as Deonna Purrazzo, Thunder Rosa, Kamille, Hikaru Shida, Jamie Hayter, Serena Deeb, Nyla Rose, Queen Aminata, Kiera Hogan, Red Velvet, Billie Starkz, Riho, Willow Nightingale, Yuka Sakazaki, Sky Blue, Saraya and many others. This lineup is teeming with the caliber of talent that could propel a show. The path to success is within reach.
Female wrestlers should be given equal chances as male wrestlers, which includes organizing matches and events that spectators are eager to watch. All Elite Wrestling possesses a talented roster capable of hosting a women’s event, and Mercedes Mone is correct in her assertion that it needs to occur.
