Hugh Bonneville addresses Paddington in Peru’s long delay
As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for movies that tug at my heartstrings and tickle my funny bone, I can confidently say that the wait for Paddington 3 has been akin to a level boss battle in an epic RPG. The anticipation, the suspense, the occasional frustration due to delays – it’s all part of the adventure.
It may surprise you, given how frequently you’ve re-watched “Paddington 2” since its premiere, making each viewing feel like a new experience, but it’s actually been seven long years since it first graced the big screen.
After a lengthy wait, Paddington makes his way to UK theaters starting this Friday, November 8, in the latest film. Despite the time it took, Hugh Bonneville remained optimistic that the third movie would materialize.
Dougal Wilson faced numerous challenges due to the pandemic and various unforeseen complications behind the scenes. Yet, he persistently worked on his storyboard and concepts, continually refining them, as he shared with Digital Spy.
Rosie Alison, our fantastic producer, expressed confidence by saying, ‘This is going to occur; we simply need to organize everything properly.’ After much effort, we have successfully reached that point, and it’s wonderful to see this project coming to fruition. The initial feedback we’re receiving is genuinely lovely and positive.
Alison commented: “Much like Paddington, I’m an optimist at heart. I held faith that it would eventually come to pass. It simply required patience as we fine-tuned the details – finding the perfect script, the ideal director.
During the time when Covid-19 was causing delays, we didn’t jump right into making this movie immediately following “Paddington 2”. Instead, we wanted to ensure that this film received proper attention and care.
It’s completely understandable that the creators of “Paddington 3” might have felt apprehensive about swiftly producing a sequel to the universally cherished “Paddington 2,” one of the most adored films ever made.
It’s not surprising that Dougal Wilson, stepping into the role previously held by Paul King, felt a bit jittery about the upcoming film. However, Bonneville spoke highly of their new director, and it seems that the early critical responses are favorable as well.
Bonneville commended him, saying it was quite distinct, especially as Dougal confessed his apprehensions about living up to Paul’s work: “I wonder if I can even come close.” However, Bonneville acknowledged that he had indeed succeeded. (This version maintains the original meaning and tone while making it more natural and easier to read.)
As a gamer, I didn’t just follow in the footsteps of my predecessors; I breathed life into their massive shoes, adding my unique flair and style to the experience. The visual concepts are refreshingly original, offering a delightful twist on familiar themes.
Wilson aimed to provide what fans could anticipate from Paddington 3 rather than focusing on leaving a personal mark on it.
Speaking further, he expressed that it was quite daunting to strive for excellence following the immense acclaim of the first two movies. But, rest assured, I have given my best efforts.
In the first two movies, there were numerous elements I adored, such as Paul’s creative visual style, the film’s atmosphere, and its multiple levels of enjoyment. I aimed to carry on this theme, and the result was what you now witness.
In the new movie, it wasn’t just Wilson who underwent a change; instead, Emily Mortimer replaced Sally Hawkins as Mrs. Brown. The cast recently talked to Digital Spy about Mortimer making her debut in the film.
Paddington in Peru is released in UK cinemas on November 8 and in US cinemas on January 17, 2025.
