Reba McEntire slammed by fans over ‘red’ themed post on Election Day
As a fan of Reba McEntire‘s music since the 80s, I find her wit and wisdom to be as captivating as her voice. Growing up in Oklahoma, just like Reba, has taught me the value of patience and resilience, much like the milk in McAlester. Her ability to humorously address political issues without endorsing a candidate is truly commendable. It’s clear that she uses her platform to speak about matters close to her heart, such as supporting the underprivileged and advocating for understanding and acceptance.
Reba McEntire is receiving criticism following her posting of a “red”-themed message on the day of the U.S. election.
Rather than urging her followers to vote, the 69-year-old country artist instead celebrated ‘National Redhead Day’ on the platform that was once known as Twitter.
She uploaded two selfies showing off her natural red hair when it was long and short.
‘Long or short, either way I love being a redhead! #NationalRedheadDay,’ the Oklahoma native wrote.
On a significant and tense day, some spectators criticized McEntire for focusing on her hairstyle, while others theorized that this could be a subtle indication of her political leanings.
One fan tweeted at the Happy’s Place star saying, ‘Tomorrow we’ll honor redheads; today is reserved for those with blue hair.’
Instead of saying, “We’re not going to discuss your hairdo today, Reba,” you could rephrase it as, “Today, we won’t be commenting on your hair, Reba.
Multiple individuals reminded McEntire about the upcoming election day and questioned why she hadn’t utilized her social media platform with over 2.3 million followers to promote voting.
One supporter wrote, “I love you, Reba, but today is all about voting,” while another said, “Today isn’t the day for Reba baby, it’s about casting my vote.
It was thought that McEntire might be suggesting she would cast her vote for the Republican/conservative candidate in the 2024 election.
One supporter replied to her Tuesday tweet with, “Absolutely correct! Vote straight red all the way!
‘RED being the key to this post,’ another response tweet read.
Unlike most of her famous counterparts, McEntire hasn’t publicly supported any candidate for the U.S. presidency.
On the recent episode of Saturday Night Live, her silence was mercilessly ridiculed, with Heidi Gardner playing her role during the Weekend Update segment.
While sketching, Gardner’s McEntire humorously hinted at the star’s rumored indecisiveness, playfully proposing a shared presidency between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
Originally hailing from McAlester, Oklahoma – a small place known for its slow decision-making – she advised the crowd, “If you suspect the milk might be bad, go ahead and take another taste of it.
She then humorously added: ‘Why can’t they both be president, like our milk in McAlester? Creamy and crunchy.’
McEntire, known for steering clear of politics since her rise to fame in the 1980s, has consistently refrained from backing any presidential contender.
However, the hitmaker has used her platform to speak on issues she cares about.
Last year, McEntire expressed her disappointment in an interview with The Los Angeles Times, following Tennessee Governor Bill Lee’s enactment of laws that had a direct impact on the LGBTQ+ community.
In this state, it’s forbidden to provide care that affirms a minor’s gender identity, and public performances involving drag shows are considered harmful to minors.
Instead of investing such resources elsewhere, I long for a world where more attention, effort, and funds are directed towards nourishing the underprivileged children in those two counties,” I expressed to the media outlet.
Allow me to share some insights from my perspective as a lifestyle expert. To put it simply, there are indeed significant issues that our nation grapples with, and yet, the discourse sometimes veers towards debates on gender expression, such as men choosing to present as women. While these discussions may seem unrelated at first glance, they are in fact deeply connected to broader societal conversations about inclusivity, diversity, and self-expression.
‘God bless ’em to wear those high heels — I feel for ’em. But let’s center our attention on something that really needs attention.’
In the same interview, McEntire stressed that she is an entertainer who ‘[doesn’t] do politics.
‘My job is to entertain. I’m not there to influence people one way or another how to vote.’
She also noted that she actively tries to ‘to stay away from disagreements and confrontations.’
