Michelle Hurd says she and Jeri Ryan both want Star Trek: Legacy "so badly"

As a dedicated Star Trek enthusiast with over three decades of passion for this universe under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation and frustration that is as complex as a Romulan political alliance when it comes to Star Trek: Legacy. I’ve been through the Klingon rebellion, the Borg invasion, and even the Voyager’s 75-year journey home – yet, the wait for an official word on Legacy feels like an eternity.

At the Spacecon convention in San Antonio, TX, it was no surprise that the topic of Star Trek: Legacy arose, given the presence of stars from the potential series. Specifically, Michelle Hurd from Star Trek: Picard was there, playing Raffi Musiker on that show. Fans eagerly asked for updates about Legacy and whether it would actually come to fruition, as reported by Trekmovie.

“Girl, I’ve got every single part of my body crossed that this day happens. Jeri and I both want Legacy so badly, and I gotta say thank you to you, and thank you to all of our communities that are trying to get that forward and signing petitions and kicking it out there. That’s the way that things happen, is you guys, your voice actually does impact the studios.”

Fans of Star Trek have played significant roles in bringing new series like “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” into existence and securing renewals for shows such as “Star Trek: Prodigy.” However, it’s puzzling that their efforts haven’t resulted in the show they’re advocating for being greenlit sooner. While it did take time for “Prodigy” to be picked up for a second season following its cancellation by Paramount+, that was essentially shifting one series to another platform, not an unusual occurrence in entertainment industry dynamics.

The hardest part about waiting is the lack of communication. Alex Kurtzman mentioned earlier this year that giving the go-ahead for Legacy was out of his control, but since then, there hasn’t been much news. After seven months, we are still unsure if Legacy has been put on hold and Paramount+ is simply not sharing the information. Ideally, we would like an update. It doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad news; what we truly want is some clarity. Could we at least find out if the series is under active consideration or if it won’t be moving forward? At this point, we’d even accept a “we’re struggling with the budget” statement because we know Star Trek productions are costly. Essentially, fans are asking for confirmation on whether their persistent requests for a Star Trek: Legacy greenlight are worthwhile.
