Paddington in Peru cast respond to Emily Mortimer taking over Mrs Brown role
As a long-time fan of the Paddington series, I must admit that the recent change in the cast has left me both apprehensive and excited. Emily Mortimer stepping into the shoes of Mrs Brown is undeniably nerve-wracking, but after hearing Hugh Bonneville’s praises, my curiosity is piqued.
In Peru, where Paddington was staying, there was a change within the Brown household as Emily Mortimer replaced Sally Hawkins in her portrayal of Mrs. Brown.
After portraying Mrs. Brown in the last two Paddington films, Hawkins chose to relinquish the role. Recently, Mortimer shared that it was quite an honor, yet undeniably a source of anxiety as well.
It was Hugh Bonneville, her fellow actor, who recommended Mortimer for the part, and she was absolutely thrilled with how she brought the character to life.
It’s quite fortunate indeed to collaborate not only with Sally Hawkins but also with Emily on the role of Mrs. Brown, as Bonneville shared with Digital Spy before the film’s UK cinema debut on November 8.
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I can confidently say that both actors are brilliant, but there’s something unique about Emily that truly resonates with me. Towards the end of the film, I believe my heart will swell, much like it did during “Paddington 2.” This emotional depth is quintessentially Emily, and I can’t wait to experience it again.
“Her personality is radiantly kind and endearing, both off-screen and on. She embodies the unique qualities one might hope for in a Mrs. Brown.
In the three films released so far, Samuel Joslin and Madeleine Harris portray Jonathan and Judy Brown respectively. They echoed Bonneville’s appreciation of their latest co-star and mentioned that developing a similar connection with her was not challenging.
In Joslin’s words, Emily has a delightful presence that makes working with her a pleasure, and when they first met during rehearsals, they instantly felt that she was the ideal choice for playing Mary.
It was a pleasure collaborating with her, and the way she elevates Mary’s screen presence is truly captivating.
Harris noted: “It was effortless for us to establish a bond with her outside of the screen, which in turn made our on-screen interactions even more effective. She seamlessly became part of the Paddington family, just like everyone else.
Based on its initial feedback and favorable early responses, the film titled “Paddington in Peru” is set to hit theaters this week with a robust Rotten Tomatoes score.
Paddington in Peru is released in UK cinemas on November 8 and in US cinemas on January 17, 2025.
