Paddington 3 debuts with strong Rotten Tomatoes score

As a die-hard fan of Paddington since I was a child, growing up with his charming antics and heartwarming stories, I must say that the upcoming sequel, “Paddington in Peru,” has me thoroughly excited! With a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 92%, it seems to be following in the footsteps of its critically acclaimed predecessors.

Paddington in Peru has debuted with a strong Rotten Tomatoes rating.

In UK theatres starting November 8, we find Ben Whishaw reprising his role as the voice of the cherished bear. This time, he embarks on a journey into the jungle alongside the Browns in an effort to meet up with his great Aunt Lucy, portrayed by Imelda Staunton from “The Crown”.

Initial responses indicate that the film has been highly praised, earning a noteworthy 92% approval rating from critics on the aggregation platform Rotten Tomatoes. This continues the series’ tradition of maintaining ratings above 90%.

In the heart of Peru, Paddington encounters the reappearance of Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville as Henry Brown. Unlike Sally Hawkins, Emily Mortimer takes on the role of Mary Brown this time around.

Madeleine Harris, Samuel Joslin, and Julie Walters return to their characters of Judy, Jonathan, and Mrs. Bird, respectively, in this new installment.

On their third adventure, we see fresh faces joining the crew, including Olivia Colman portraying a nun and Antonio Banderas as Hunter Cabot, an Amazon rainforest explorer. However, it remains to be seen whether Sister Colman or Mr. Cabot will ultimately reveal themselves as the antagonist.

Here’s a round-up of what reviewers have been saying of Paddington 3 so far:

Digital Spy

As a gamer, I have to say that the beginning of this flick feels a bit sluggish at first, but once it gets going, it’s a rollercoaster ride! It’s packed with clever, amusing visuals and hilarious one-liners that had me chuckling. Plus, it wraps up with an emotional punch that left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.

Indeed, ‘Paddington in Peru’ may not reach the heights of ‘Paddington 2’, but if you choose to overlook it based on that, we might just raise an eyebrow at you.

Empire Magazine

In a new twist, the Paddington series takes on the title ‘The Raiders of the Lost Bear,’ moving from the peaceful setting of Primrose Hill to the dangerous wilderness of Peru. While this third installment is generally well-received, some of its original charm seems to have been misplaced along the journey.

Variety

In Peru with Paddington is lively, swift, and brightly cheerful, much like any other Paddington escapade ought to be. Those who missed the 2017 premiere of “Paddington 2” will find this sunshiney atmosphere irresistible.

BBC

Watching Paddington in Peru provides a delightful and energetic 1 hour and 45 minutes at the cinema, which isn’t something to ignore, but it feels more like a strong continuation of an established series rather than a groundbreaking cultural sensation on its own.

The Guardian

The third installment of Paddington’s series makes for an enjoyable holiday watch, always keeping things fun, but there seems to be a decrease in the number of jokes and moving Paddington away from England feels like a risky decision, borderline on being overly dramatic.

The Daily Telegraph

“Let’s be fair: absolutely no one will have a bad time at Paddington in Peru, which is bouncy, unobjectionable and raises plenty of smiles. But most viewers are likely to come out more sated than elated.”

Paddington in Peru is released in UK cinemas on November 8 and in US cinemas on January 17, 2025.
