Barry Keoghan’s forgotten Irish drama is on TV tonight
As a dedicated fan of Barry Keoghan’s captivating performances, I can’t help but feel excited about the opportunity to delve deeper into his impressive filmography. If you haven’t already seen it, make sure to catch “Black ’47” airing on Film4 at 12.20am this Wednesday!
Barry Keoghan has gained recognition through his latest films such as the viral sensation “Saltburn” and the Academy Award-winning “The Banshees of Inisherin.
Some viewers may not be acquainted with some of his earlier productions. If you happen to be available tonight, there’s a chance to catch one of Keoghan’s less recognized films, titled “Black ’47“, which will be broadcast on Film4 at 12:20 am.
If you’re eager to watch it, consider renting or purchasing the 2018 Irish period drama from Amazon, iTunes, or the Microsoft Store instead.
Under Lance Daly’s direction, this film is based in the region of Connemara during the catastrophic Irish Potato Famine. The title alludes to the year considered the most devastating in the famine’s history, 1847, which is commonly referred to as ‘Black ’47.’
The story follows an Irish Catholic soldier who decides to desert the British Army after years of fighting abroad. He wants to reunite with his family, so he embarks on a dangerous journey to get to his village.
In his role as a secondary character, Keoghan portrays Private Hobson – a youthful and optimistic English solider. He performs alongside Hugo Weaving, James Frecheville, Jim Broadbent, Stephen Rea, Freddie Fox, Moe Dunford, and Sarah Greene in the production.
After debuting at the Berlin Film Festival in 2018, the movie generally garnered favorable criticism, earning a 78% positive response (based on 54 reviews) on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Black ’47 roots its intense action in layered storytelling within genre conventions, but its grand aspirations may stretch beyond its capabilities.
As a gamer, I was already making waves in the acting world before my role in Black ’47. My work alongside Christopher Nolan in Dunkirk and Yorgos Lanthimos in The Killing of a Sacred Deer, both dropped in 2017, definitely helped put my name on the map.
As a devotee, I’ve been fortunate to see my Irish idol shine brighter than ever this year. He graced us with his presence in Andrea Arnold’s films “Bird” and “Bring Them Down,” and now, the excitement is palpable as he joins the star-studded cast for the upcoming Netflix film adaptation of “Peaky Blinders.
Black ’47 will air on Film 4 at 12.20am (Wednesday).
