Chris Pratt admits there’s one iconic Mario aspect that he ‘never fully got right’

Chris Pratt has confessed he struggled to perfectly capture one key part of the character Mario. He’s back to voice the famous plumber in the upcoming movie, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and viewers might pick up on a significant difference in his performance this time around.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Chris Pratt revealed he changed the way his character delivers the famous line, “Mamma Mia.”

Pratt said he wasn’t ready to sing yet, as he hadn’t warmed up his voice. He was reluctant, but confirmed the song he’d be performing was ‘Mamma Mia’.

He explained that the original character spoke Italian, often exclaiming ‘Mamma Mia’ in a high-pitched voice. He wondered why a character from Brooklyn, who wouldn’t naturally have that accent, would use it so frequently.

He said it was always a challenge to figure out how to write ‘Mamma Mia’ in dialogue. People would point out it’s spelled that way, but he felt you’d only naturally say it with an Italian accent, like when you’re genuinely impressed – ‘Oh wow, Mamma Mia!’ – so it was difficult to make it sound realistic.

Pratt explained that he likes to change up how he delivers the line each time. He believes the producers may have slowed down the scene to lessen the impact of his performance, as he wasn’t completely satisfied with it, but it generally sounds like ‘Maaammaaa Miaaaa’.
