Furious Aussie fans slam Coldplay for making them watch a Welcome to Country ceremony before their sold-out concert: 'This is beyond a joke'

As a longtime Coldplay fan, I must say that their recent tour has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride! From Chris Martin falling off the stage to Guy Berryman’s health scare, it seems like fate is testing these musicians more than they’ve ever been before. However, true to form, they’ve managed to power through each obstacle with grace and resilience.

Disgruntled Coldplay enthusiasts have voiced displeasure towards the band, as they feel compelled to witness a ‘Welcome to Country‘ ritual prior to their packed concert.

Angry concert-goers are posting on social media, claiming that the band is injecting politics into their performances by holding events prior to the main act.

To begin their Melbourne performance at Marvel Stadium last week, Aboriginal elders ascended the stage to honor the original inhabitants of the land upon which the event took place by offering their respects.

‘So now they’re bringing politics into concerts!’ one fan sniped on Facebook.

A second person added: ‘This is a beyond a joke.’

‘Seriously, when will this stop!’ someone else chipped in.

‘Welcome to Country is the biggest turnoff,’ another person wrote.

At an event, it’s customary for the original inhabitants or caretakers of the land where the gathering occurs to offer a traditional greeting.

Greetings! Today’s performance is proudly held on traditional lands. Kudos to Coldplay for an exceptional show! #WelcomeToCountry #Coldplay #Melbourne #ColdplayMelbourne #FYP #Foryou

Typically, a respected elder from the local indigenous community performs this ritual to officially approve and give permission for activities happening on ancestral territories.

On Monday, Chris Martin from Coldplay arrived in Sydney together with his father Anthony, as they carry on with their tour across Australia.

In a seemingly unscathed state, the lead vocalist, aged 47, stepped out of the private aircraft following an incident where he accidentally fell through a trap door during their last performance in Melbourne.

During a pause in the performance, Martin, while reading audience signs and moving backward, accidentally tripped through a gaping hole, leaving the astonished spectators speechless.

In the video posted on social media, the audience could be heard gasping when Martin unexpectedly disappeared from sight.

As an over-the-moon fan, I can confirm that the captivating Yellow Singer was heard comforting us fans, “That’s not part of the plan,” he said, before acknowledging a production team member hidden under the stage with a grateful, “Thanks for catching me.

Following the incident, Martin continued on with the show.

On Wednesday night, the band’s debut concert in Melbourne was disrupted due to a health emergency experienced by one of its members.

For the first time in their careers, Martin made an announcement that the band would perform their inaugural show at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, with bassist Guy Berryman absent due to falling ill.

At the concert, Martin announced: “Our performance tonight is going to be a bit unique, and we’re determined to make it spectacular since we’re here in Melbourne amongst such lovely people.

The singer explained, “You might notice some issues and errors since our bassist isn’t with us tonight. Unfortunately, Guy won’t be joining us as he’s feeling ill and vomiting.

After the electrifying performance we delivered on Wednesday evening, I couldn’t help but take to Instagram to express my heartfelt gratitude to our amazing fans for their unwavering understanding and support. They get us like no one else does! #ForeverGrateful #BandOfBrothers

This evening marked a unique moment in our band’s journey, as we performed without all four of us on stage due to an unforeseen illness that struck Guy right before the concert. We want to express our gratitude for your support in helping us navigate through this challenging situation.

Thankfully, the bassist made a swift recovery and joined the band on stage once more the very next evening.

On Wednesday and Thursday evening, Coldplay carry on with their tour, putting on shows at the Accor Stadium in Sydney.

I’m currently down under, in Australia, for our Spheres World Tour. This tour has us setting up shop for a four-night stint at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium and Sydney’s Olympic Park.

For a while now, the successful band known as Yellow has not performed on the Australian east coast since their 2016 A Head Full of Dreams Tour in cities like Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.

Last year, the band made a comeback to Australia, however, they only performed at two concerts on the western coast, specifically at Perth’s Optus Stadium.
