Rivals star Emily Atack hits back at “sexually aggressive” trolls
As a devoted fan of British drama series, I must say that “Rivals” has truly captivated my attention with its engaging storyline and exceptional cast. The series, based on Dame Jilly Cooper’s best-selling novel, takes us back to the social elite of the 1980s, offering a riveting exploration of power dynamics and rivalry.
Rivals star Emily Atack has hit back at “sexually aggressive” trolls.
Drawing inspiration from Dame Jilly Cooper’s popular novel, this series unfolds in the high society of the 1980s, predominantly revolving around the fierce competition between Lord Tony Baddingham, portrayed by David Tennant, and politician Rupert Campbell-Black, played by Alex Hassell.
In this rephrased version, Sarah Stratton, portrayed by Actress Attack, attempted to use her advantage as a television presenter by showcasing her marriage with Deputy Prime Minister Paul Stratton (played by Rufus Jones) in a more prominent way.
In an unforgettable moment, Sarah participated in a game of tennis without clothing, opposite Campbell-Black, on the grassy expanse of a rural manor.
During an interview with The Times, Atack disclosed that she’s faced significant criticism for her appearance in the scene, with internet users circulating images, suggesting they were clandestine shots taken on the filming set.
She remarked, “I had an inkling it might unfold this way, though perhaps not so soon.” As for her current location, she clarified, “I’m at work, immersed in my role, that part of the story is crucial to the book’s plot. I am precisely where fate intends me to be.
“I don’t have the power to regulate inappropriate sexual behavior, but I can persist with my advocacy for women’s liberation. It seems unfair that I should face backlash for standing up for such causes. These two aspects shouldn’t be interconnected.
Attack elaborated: “The other day, someone on Instagram commented, ‘Choose a path, it’s illogical to perform a provocative role and then be surprised by explicit messages. What made you accept such a role?’
As a gamer speaking directly, let me rephrase it like this: “I was curious if what you’re suggesting is asking me to give up my career? But why would I do that? Just like women who need to change their outfits or routes home, I have my professional obligations. I can’t make everyone happy, but I’m committed to my career.
When talking to Digital Spy regarding her nude scene, the actress earlier expressed her concern was primarily focused on mastering tennis rather than showing herself in the buff during filming.
She didn’t say, “I’ll be running around a tennis court entirely without clothes.” Instead, she prefers a grand arrival. Essentially, she responded with a confident, “Bring it on!
We frequently emphasize that explicit scenes such as nudity and sexual content play significant roles in our production. These aren’t included casually or without purpose. Instead, they are deeply interwoven into the plotlines and character development.
In addition to that, the cast of this show includes Aidan Turner from Poldark, Bella Maclean from Sex Education, Luke Pasqualino from Our Girl, Victoria Smurfit from Once Upon a Time, and Danny Dyer who is known for his role in EastEnders.
The lead director role is taken by Elliot Hegarty, a BAFTA-nominated filmmaker recognized for his contributions to ‘Ted Lasso’ and ‘Trying’.
Over the past month since its debut on Disney+, the series has been met with widespread praise by both viewers and critics, and currently holds an impressive 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 33 reviews.
Rivals is available to stream on Disney+.
