Joaquin Phoenix talked to Christopher Nolan about Dark Knight Joker role

As a seasoned gamer of the silver screen, I must admit that hearing about Joaquin Phoenix’s near-miss with The Joker role in Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight has piqued my interest and stirred a tinge of what-ifs.

It came out that Joaquin Phoenix was up for playing The Joker in Christopher Nolan’s movie, “The Dark Knight.

Since 2019, the actor has been portraying the legendary villain, appearing in the “Joker” movie and its latest sequel titled “Folie à Deux”. Interestingly, Joaquin Phoenix shared that he was first offered the role of the Joker for “The Dark Knight”, a decade before he took on the iconic character.

On the Tetragrammaton with Rick Rubin podcast, I reminisced about my conversation with Christopher Nolan regarding the Dark Knight role. I mentioned that, unfortunately, it didn’t work out for some reason.

He expressed that at the time, he wasn’t prepared. It was as if he was wondering, ‘What within me is preventing this from happening?’ However, it’s not about him personally. Instead, there’s someone else who will take on a task or achieve something.

I can’t recall the specifics of our first encounter with Christopher Nolan, but I do know that we’ve met at some point, and he may have indicated to me that I was the right person for something.

He added: “My feeling was I shouldn’t do this, but maybe he also was like, ‘He’s not the guy.'”

In the end, it was Heath Ledger who portrayed the character, and his remarkable acting earned him a posthumous Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Phoenix commented, “It’s hard to imagine how that movie would have turned out without Heath Ledger’s performance.

Just got some exciting news for all the gaming folks like me who love their movies! If you haven’t had a chance to catch Phoenix as the Joker yet, now’s your time. “Joker: Folie à Deux” has officially landed on streaming platforms in the US – you can buy or rent it on Prime Video, iTunes, and other digital retailers as of October 29. But for my friends across the pond in the UK, the wait’s almost over! The movie is still running in cinemas there, and the digital release will follow tomorrow (November 4). So grab your popcorn, get comfortable, and prepare to dive into another chapter of this iconic story.
