G2 m0NESY on what motivates him to improve: “I love playing this game, I love Counter-Strike”
As a seasoned gamer with years of esports experience under my belt, I can confidently say that m0NESY is undoubtedly one of CS2’s brightest stars. His performance at the BLAST World Final in Singapore this week has been nothing short of spectacular. The 19-year-old sniper has been tearing teams apart with his incredible skill and precision, making it clear that he’s a force to be reckoned with.
If you haven’t recognized Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov as one of CS2’s top players, it seems like you might have overlooked the whole BLAST World Final that took place in Singapore this week.
This week, the 19-year-old sniper has been singlehandedly dismantling teams, leaving behind a trail of victories. Both Liquid and Spirit experienced his destructive power during the group stage, followed by an impressive display against Vitality in the semifinals. In the three-map series, he achieved a remarkable 1.55 rating and boasted a +27 kill difference.
With only a few obstacles left, m0NESY and G2 are charging towards their third trophy of the year. Despite this, there remains curiosity about just how high the talented marksman can rise in CS:2. As he stated to Xpsp after the semifinal victory, it’s the strong backing system at G2 that allows him to scale such great heights.
G2 m0NESY: “If we’re in a good zone, we’re strong”
As a gamer, let me walk you through my pre-game preparations. There’s been quite a buzz about our strategy for today, and many of us are considering punishing Vitality due to their substitution of JACKZ. This change might alter their usual playstyle, so I’m pondering if that’s indeed the case in my own gameplan. What do you think?
When a substitute is part of your team, you often adjust your playstyle since you typically rely on specific abilities from each member during team preparations. Our experience with this was evident when we had Stewie2K on our squad; we also encountered Vitality with Stewie in the Dallas grand final.
On occasion, it might seem simpler to adapt to the other team’s style, but we chose to stick with ours instead. Our goal was to concentrate on our own strategy; once you comprehend their tactics, then you can counter them effectively.
“Victor says very good words on timeouts”
On Dust 2, you were leading 11-9, Vitality was trying to recover. You called a timeout, TaZ spoke a few words, and you managed to win three more rounds in a row. What do you and your team discuss during those critical moments when the game seems to be slipping away and you need to rally back?
To put it simply, I can’t recall exactly what was discussed during the freeze-time, but I do remember that we needed to slightly decelerate the pace of the game because it was moving too quickly. We were playing rather briskly. In essence, we seemed to be in control and setting our own rhythm – we were ahead but making rapid decisions. So, we decided to slow down a bit, adopt a more defensive strategy, and that’s what we did. Victor’s words during timeouts are quite insightful; they provide valuable input for the team.
What insights did the previous encounter with Vitality on Mirage during the BLAST Fall Final teach you? Given that match ended up in overtime, this current game seemed to be following a similar pattern.
It’s mostly about being prepared for their actions and occasionally playing with the situation. Personally, I don’t spend much time thinking about my opponents, but rather focus on myself quite a bit. And as a team, our main emphasis is also on ourselves. When we are in a good state of mind, we become strong.
m0NESY is “obsessed” with Counter-Strike
As a dedicated fan, it’s been truly exhilarating to witness your exceptional journey in this tournament on a deeply personal level. The Shanghai Major has undeniably positioned you among the top contenders for the coveted title of Best Player of 2024. I’m curious, what drives you to continually strive for improvement? What are the key motivators that fuel your relentless pursuit of excellence?
Everyone in our team, including coaches, management, and others, make me feel comfortable while also inspiring me to move forward, not just motivated but continuously progressing. It’s important to remember that learning from your own errors and those of other players is crucial; if you solely concentrate on yourself without considering the lessons from others, it can lead to negative outcomes.
Additionally, I believe it’s important to assist fellow players whenever possible. If you observe a player committing an error, you might discuss it with them, which can be educational for both parties. I think having supportive individuals around me, particularly those who excel in this field, fosters my growth. It’s noteworthy that my passion for this game is profound, and I find great joy in playing Counter-Strike.
It seems there’s much discussion about what lies ahead for your team. Wouldn’t it be extraordinary if you all could depart today, victorious and holding the trophy?
Of course, everyone desires victory. Regardless of who makes it to our championship match tomorrow, I believe each team shares the same aspiration to win. For us, triumphing in this tournament would be particularly meaningful given our dedicated efforts. Lifting yet another trophy right here in Singapore would indeed be a memorable experience.
