Marty Sheargold takes on new radio role at Triple M as local shows get the axe in MASSIVE network shake-up

As an ardent follower of Triple M radio, I must say that this news has sent waves of excitement and a tinge of melancholy through me. Marty Sheargold, a comedic genius who has been my trusted companion during countless traffic jams, is extending his national show into the drive shift next year!

Triple M radio host, Marty Sheargold, will be taking on a fresh position within the network following his departure from the morning show in July.

In a significant reshuffle within the network, Marty Sheargold, aged 53, is set to broaden his reach as host of The National Marty Sheargold Show, with an expansion into the afternoon drive-time slots for stations in Sydney, Brisbane, and Gold Coast.

Currently, the show airs nationally from Monday to Friday, 3-4pm.

In these areas, there will be an extended broadcast of the well-liked comedian’s program for an extra two hours, airing from 4 to 6 PM instead.

Sheargold expressed enthusiasm about resuming her Drive shift for listeners from New South Wales and Queensland in 2025, offering an extended version of the program,” (paraphrased statement)

On my journey home, I plan to relax, wrap up the day with some conversation and laughter – that’s the experience I’m aiming to provide.

Sheargold’s shift into drive means that a raft local shows will be axed in 2025.

Next year, The Rush Hour starring Leisel Jones, Liam Flanagan, and Ben Dobbin, that is broadcasted in Queensland, will not come back on the air.

Similarly, NSW’s Rush Hour with Gus Worland and Jude Bolton will also be discontinued.

The Adelaide and Perth Rush Hour teams will not be returning in 2025 either.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the dynamic duo, James Brayshaw and Billy Brownless, who currently entertain audiences in Melbourne and Tasmania, will now extend their reach to South and Western Australia, as well as on various Triple M regional stations scattered across the southern states.

Last Friday, Liesel Jones updated her followers on Instagram by posting a picture featuring the on-air team.

‘Well it was fun while it lasted,’ she wrote.

‘Sad news today that @triplem_rushhour with Leisel Jones, Liam and Dobbo won’t go ahead in 2025.’

‘I’ve learnt a lot working this job and I’ve enjoyed the laughs,’ the post continued.

The aim of this program has been to consistently brighten up your commute, irrespective of the nature of your day.

I really hope our interaction brought a smile or chuckle to your afternoon. See you again soon, just like a circular pastry! Until then.

Sheargold added that he was committed to carrying on the local teams’ legacies.

‘I also wanted to thank the teams from the Sydney, Brisbane/Gold Coast and Queensland,’ he said.

These shows have had phenomenal runs and provided immense entertainment. I am dedicated to preserving and continuing their traditions.

In a new development, the duo from The Rush Hour – Brayshaw and Brownless – will soon be broadcasted not just in Melbourne and Tasmania, but also in South and Western Australia, as well as on various Triple M regional stations scattered across the southern states.

In October 2023, Sheargold stepped away for a personal break from his Triple M breakfast program. He came back momentarily in January, but later on in July, he declared that he was permanently leaving the show and shifting to the 3 PM to 4 PM timeframe instead.

In July, he shared that he was stepping down from his Triple M radio show in order to devote more attention to his family and focus on personal wellness, which he felt was necessary after a three-month break following an incident involving alcohol at the AFL Grand Final.

He emphasized the significance of devoting extra time to his loved ones during family gatherings, which was a key realization he made after taking an extended vacation towards the end of last year.

Consequently, I’ve chosen to focus on personal wellbeing, strive for a healthier work/life harmony, and unfortunately, I won’t be resuming my position on the Triple M Breakfast program.
