LEGO is creating official sets based on the Pokémon Trading Card Game, but fans won’t see what they look like until they’re built! Pokémon LEGO sets are new this year, and LEGO is holding a contest to let fans design what the special Trading Card Game sets will be.
Pokémon and LEGO have teamed up for a unique contest: the LEGO Ideas Pokémon Trading Card Challenge! Participants are invited to design a Pokémon card using LEGO bricks, and the winning creation will become an official LEGO set. Importantly, designs must be original – you can’t just build an existing card. The creator of the winning design will also receive a share of the profits, earning 1% of the net sales from their LEGO set.
Pokémon TCG LEGO Set Is On The Way After Official Contest
LEGO is releasing more and more Pokémon sets, and now they’re introducing the first one specifically based on the trading card game. This set is thanks to a passionate fan! The challenge involves building a LEGO version of a Pokémon card, with a frame highlighting one of 30 different Pokémon. Contestants are encouraged to be creative – the Pokémon can break out of the frame, use it as a background, or be displayed in any imaginative way they can think of.
Designs must use between 400 and 2,500 LEGO pieces and be submitted by May 6th. The LEGO Ideas Review Board will choose the top five submissions, and then the public will vote for their favorite. However, even if a design gets the most votes, it’s not automatically guaranteed to win the Grand Prize. According to the official rules, the Review Board makes the final decision on which idea will become an official LEGO set, considering factors beyond just the vote count.
LEGO Ideas Pokémon TCG Challenge Rewards & How To Join
As a huge LEGO fan, I was so excited to read about the prizes! Not only does the Grand Prize winner get a share of the profits (1%!), but they also get ten free copies of their LEGO Ideas set, and their name will be in the instruction manual! And it’s not just the winner—the four runners-up each get a fantastic bundle of LEGO sets: Eevee and Pikachu, the cool Minifigure Vending Machine, Love Birds, and the adorable Orange Cat. What a haul!
You can participate by building your LEGO creation with real bricks or using digital tools like Bricklink Studio. Then, submit 4 to 10 photos of your build to the LEGO Ideas website, along with a title and brief description. Your creation needs to fit within a size limit of 12×8.5 inches (37×26 studs) and must be entirely your own work – no AI-generated elements are allowed.
After submissions for the LEGO Ideas contest close, voting will be open from May 28th to June 11th. While the exact date isn’t known, the grand prize winner will be announced by February 4, 2027. This is a fantastic way for LEGO to commemorate Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, though it could be a lengthy wait for the five finalists selected this year. A LEGO set based on the Pokémon Trading Card Game is planned, and it will be uniquely designed by a talented fan.
