New Godzilla movie confirmed from Godzilla Minus One director

As a passionate fan who has been following the Godzilla franchise since its inception, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming movie from director Takashi Yamazaki! The success of “Godzilla Minus One” was not just a box office triumph, but a heartfelt tribute to postwar Japan that resonated deeply with audiences worldwide.

A brand new Godzilla movie is officially on the way from the director of Godzilla Minus One.

Last year’s release of the monster movie was met with both critical acclaim and significant commercial success, and now production has begun for the next installment in the series.

Today, on November 1st, the authentic Godzilla account shared a surprising update – an emergency announcement – confirming that production for another film in the series has been approved. Notably, director Takashi Yamazaki will be back to pen the script, guide the visual effects, and take charge of directing the upcoming movie.

He took on all three roles for the film titled “Godzilla Minus One,”, but as of now, it remains uncertain whether the upcoming movie will serve as a direct continuation or not.

Previously, producer Minami Ichikawa hinted at a potential sequel, stating that studio Toho is taking their time before moving forward with a new installment.

Back in 2019, I helped set up a special team here at Toho, which we call the ‘Godzilla Room’. This group is all about brainstorming and planning for the iconic Godzilla character’s future. So, as a dedicated gamer (and monster-loving fan), I’m excited to see where this legendary beast stomps next!

In the past, we’ve created animated movies featuring Godzilla. Now, we’re coming up with fresh ideas to broaden the world of Godzilla beyond films, such as books, merchandise, and collaborative projects.

As a passionate fan, I’m in no hurry for the next installment of the live-action film. What truly matters are quality productions. We yearn for thoughtful ideas, a polished script, a visionary director, and a suitable cast who can bring their A-game to this project. Godzilla deserves nothing less than such deliberate craftsmanship.

The story “Godzilla Minus One” unfolds in post-war Japan, focusing on a tormented ex-kamikaze pilot struggling with PTSD, who then crosses paths with the legendary beast known as Godzilla.

This year, the film raked in the most money among all Japanese language movies in North America, and it eventually bagged the Academy Award for Excellent Visual Effects.

A while back, it suddenly appeared on Netflix, turning out to be a surprising event. It became the first film ever to lead both Netflix’s movie rankings and the Video-On-Demand (VOD) charts simultaneously.

Godzilla Minus One is streaming now on Netflix.
