Heidi Klum is always extra on Halloween. This year she was E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

As a child of the ’80s, I can wholeheartedly appreciate the sheer nostalgia and creativity that Heidi Klum and her husband Tom Kaulitz brought to this year’s Halloween party. Having grown up with E.T., it was like stepping back into my childhood, albeit with a modern twist. The level of detail and dedication to their costumes is truly inspiring.

On Thursday evening, Heidi Klum and her spouse Tom Kaulitz dressed up as a pair of alien characters reminiscent of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial for Heidi’s yearly Halloween party.

This celebrity associated with “America’s Got Talent” and “Project Runway” never holds back when it comes to Halloween, transforming into a variety of intricate costumes in the past such as a vibrant peacock composed of multiple individuals, an elaborate butterfly, a wriggling worm, a bony corpse, Fiona from “Shrek,” and notably aging herself.

For this latest project, she once more referenced a timeless Hollywood movie, assembling a group of skilled pros in prosthetics and special effects makeup to fashion the extraterrestrial costumes seen on Thursday. Kaulitz portrayed the original title character from Steven Spielberg’s 1982 film, while Klum adopted the role of E.T. disguised. In keeping with the alien’s iconic appearance, both donned a glowing finger.

As soon as I began planning my Halloween costume for Heidi’s 25th anniversary, I drew inspiration from one of my all-time favorite films,” Klum, 51, posted on Instagram Friday, giving fans a sneak peek at the multi-hour costume creation process through a behind-the-scenes video.

In a letter, she shared that when I was nine years old living in Germany, E.T. sparked the concept of extraterrestrial life for me. Over the past year, we’ve brainstormed ideas on how to make this timeless character uniquely mine. Although E.T. yearned to return home, I can only imagine that if the story were set in 2024, my beloved alien friend might grace my party instead.

23rd yearly Halloween celebration hosted by Klum took place at Hard Rock Hotel in New York City, attracting numerous celebrities. In an interview with USA Today, Klum mentioned that her annual party originated due to limited “really exciting” Halloween parties in New York. Over the years, this event and Klum’s extravagant costumes have become a significant cultural reference for Halloween. The festivities commenced earlier this week with the iconic lighting of the Empire State Building by Klum herself.

On Thursday, both Klum and Kaulitz emerged showing their faces from their outfits, which boasted 3-D printed ensembles and digital artworks resembling the robotic head of E.T., positioned on their heads.

As a dedicated collaborator on this intriguing endeavor, I can attest that we’re creating something groundbreaking – a “complete film in the making.” Also, to ensure uninterrupted work throughout the long hours of production, I might need to don some practical adult diapers to avoid frequent bathroom breaks.

I’d like to express gratitude: To my loving husband for graciously joining me every year in our shared dressing up adventures, and to the exceptional, gifted team who brought my boldest vision to life. It wouldn’t have been possible without your efforts,” Klum wrote in her caption.

Additionally, present were Leni, Klum’s daughter, dressed as an extraterrestrial, along with Kelsea Ballerini and her boyfriend Chase Stokes in costumes reminiscent of “Grease” characters Danny and Sandy, Nicole Scherzinger portraying her “Sunset Boulevard” character covered in blood, and TikTok sensation Charli D’Amelio as a ballet dancer from “Black Swan.

At the event, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson manned the turntables, while Bethenny Frankel, Marc Jacobs, Eric Andre, the Elevator Boys, Ice-T and Coco, Jay Manuel, and Jonathan Van Ness were some of the attendees.

On the West Coast, Grammy-winning artist Janelle Monáe channeled an iconic ’80s character at her Halloween bash in LA. Her E.T. disguise included moving eyes, a yellow pointing finger, and the signature voice of the extraterrestrial.

When talking to the Associated Press regarding teaming up with Klum, Monáe acknowledged her fellow New Yorker: “Two people can be ‘Hallo-queens’. I admire Heidi.
