How the new Skeleton Crew trailer taps into Guardians of the Galaxy vibes!

As a child of the 80s who grew up with the magic of Amblin Entertainment and the cosmic charm of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the latest trailer for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has me absolutely thrilled! The blend of classic adventure, a dash of Star Wars lore, and a sprinkle of 80s nostalgia is an exhilarating combination that I can’t seem to get enough of.

Kicking off November, we got a fresh trailer for “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew”! This exciting new trailer offers insights into the plot of the upcoming series, where four children find themselves unintentionally stranded in the galaxy aboard a spaceship they’ve discovered.

One key aspect highlighted since the beginning is that the show will draw inspiration from films produced by Amblin Entertainment, a factor that has been quite prominent so far. With pirates and young heroes as central elements, there have been numerous visuals and teaser trailers hinting at films like “The Goonies”. This official trailer undeniably evoked the atmosphere of “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”.

However, one major change this official trailer did was go in a new hype-inducing direction:

This went full Guardians of the Galaxy.

For the first time, the movie “Skeleton Crew” immersed itself deeply in the charm of the ’80s, featuring a catchy soundtrack, an iconic font style for its text, and overall atmosphere reminiscent of that era.

What really excites me about this production is the integration of an authentic pop song within the trailer (almost). The tune is “Major Tom (Coming Home)” by Peter Schilling, yet it appears as though it’s being sung in Huttese. If they’re planning an entire 80’s soundtrack using Star Wars languages, this has quickly become my favorite Star Wars series. I’ve longed for more diverse music genres within the Star Wars universe, and this approach would be fantastic.

In the latest trailer, certain shots resemble scenes from Marvel Cinematic Universe films. For instance, the children’s destination bears a striking resemblance to Knowhere and provides sustenance and guidance. Later on, among the pirates, there seems to be a golden city akin to Xandar under attack by a new menace, much like in the initial film.

The design and 80s vibe of Skeleton Crew promises a thrilling, light-hearted series, much like the fun-loving spirit of Guardians of the Galaxy. Unlike the somber and serious tone of shows like Andor, this one is more akin to an adventurous pirate tale reminiscent of The Goonies, combined with the nostalgia of E.T. featuring four kids, a resourceful Jedi, and a fantastic soundtrack as they navigate their way home. I’m eagerly awaiting this series – bring it on!

Below, you’ll find the official trailer for “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.” Don’t forget to tune in as it debuts its initial two episodes on Disney+, starting December 3.
