Vitality send MOUZ packing in BLAST Premier World Final 2024

As a long-time fan of esports and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions as I watch Vitality advance to the semifinals of BLAST Premier World Final 2024. MOUZ has been a top team all year, yet they seem to crumble under the pressure of big crowds. It’s like watching a rollercoaster, exhilarating one moment and heart-wrenching the next.

MOUZ experienced another defeat at a major event, giving Team Vitality an opportunity to move forward to the semifinals of the BLAST Premier World Final 2024.

The energy level is high as they progress to the semifinals of the BLAST Premier World Final 2024 after an overwhelming win over MOUZ on November 1. Their next challenge is against G2 Esports, and the winner will advance to the Grand Finals.

Despite MOUZ maintaining their top position throughout the year, they consistently faced challenges in all events, especially those with a large crowd. Vitality seized this opportunity to clinch a swift 2-0 win over them, even though Audric “JACKZ” Jug stood in for William “mezii” Merriman, who’s currently on paternity leave.

MOUZ spectators might wonder why MOUZ chose Mirage over Dust 2, allowing Vitality to take the latter. Both maps, it could be argued, are popular among players who frequently play public matches (pugs), making them beneficial in a stand-in scenario.

Tomorrow, November 2nd, Vitality will regain strength and compete against G2 in the semifinals of the BLAST Premier World Final. Meanwhile, MOUZ will begin preparing for the Perfect World Shanghai Major European RMR.

Here’s a summary of the match between Vitality and MOUZ during the BLAST Premier World Final, followed by an interview with JACKZ, conducted by Nicholas Taifalos from Xpsp reporter.

  • Vitality picked Dust 2
  • MOUZ picked Mirage
  • Vitality removed Vertigo
  • MOUZ removed Inferno
  • Nuke was left as the decider

Dust 2 (Vitality 13-6 MOUZ)

Initially, MOUZ triumphed in the first pistol round and the ensuing two rounds on Dust 2, but Vitality swiftly got into action with their offensive approach. Even a disheartening defeat in just USP-S and one MP9 didn’t slow them down, as Vitality eventually won the first half by a score of 7-5.

On their CT side, performance was superior, with almost everyone except IGL Dan “apEX” Madesclaire accurately landing their shots. MOUZ made attempts to assault B site several times, but JACKZ held firm as the anchor, not only defending steadfastly but also managing to push through Lower Tunnels on one round for a decisive kill.

Mirage (Vitality 13-6 MOUZ)

In the game, it’s tough for an opposing team when Vitality’s top rifle players, flameZ and Spinx, join forces with ZywOo. These duo set the tempo of the match, accumulating a total of 29 kills in just the first half, which gave Vitality a strong 8-4 advantage on their attacking side (T-side).

In the second part of the game, MOUZ faced more difficulties after winning the pistol round but ultimately losing against an antieco. This allowed Vitality to gain momentum, leveraging their financial advantage, which they used effectively to quickly wrap up the map.

At Esports.gg: It’s been some time since you’ve performed in front of a crowd like this; can you share your feelings at this moment following your victory amidst this fantastic audience?

USER: “I found it absolutely fantastic! My previous competition was BLAST Lisbon, where we unfortunately lost to Vitality in the finals. However, the atmosphere at this venue is always lively, and returning after two years made the experience even more special.

Esports.gg: Walk me through your map choices since you played incredibly well on Dust II and continued strongly on Mirage. Was the veto strategy we used something you anticipated?

USER: “I was determined to display a strong competitive drive in this series. We’ve got our strategy sorted, and we’re highly motivated to win since they defeated Vitality in the Rio final. Thus, I’d describe it as raw determination or a fierce competitive spirit.

In my conversation with apEX yesterday, he mentioned that prior to each map, he would share one or two strategies for the T side, giving him some extra space on the CT side. Today, we saw even more of his skills, particularly on the T side. It seems like he’s growing more confident as he adjusts to the team dynamics, isn’t that correct?

“Initially, I found it challenging because I was trying too hard to adapt, listen, and suppress my feelings since they contained many complex words and a complex system. Feeling overwhelmed, I was hesitating too much, which is not good in CS as it often leads to failure. Now, I’m attempting to strike a balance, focusing more on following my intuition, and the experience is getting better day by day. The more I trust my feelings, the more comfortable I feel.

In the Esports.gg interview, they ask about your expectations for this entire event from a personal perspective since you joined as a last-minute substitute without any prior preparation or rehearsals.

JACKZ: “I’m a dedicated player who aspires to compete in Counter-Strike, either at the highest level or tier two. In 2025, there seems to be a promising year for LAN events. I want to challenge myself and prove my worth, as I believe I have some solutions up my sleeve. However, I’m not quite ready to rest on my laurels yet; I still crave the competition and I feel that I’ve earned at least one or two solid years of CS play.
