Formula 1: No more races being broadcast on ABC in 2024

Formula 1: No more races being broadcast on ABC in 2024

As a dedicated F1 enthusiast with years of trackside experiences under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation as we approach the final stretch of the 2024 season. The Sao Paulo Grand Prix at Interlagos Circuit is just around the corner, and it’s a relief to know that it will be broadcast on ESPN2 this time, unlike the Mexico City Grand Prix which was on ABC.

Only four races remain on the exceptional 24-race Formula 1 schedule of 2024, including this weekend’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix (commonly referred to as the Brazilian Grand Prix) at Interlagos Circuit, marking the end of the season’s second consecutive series of three races. The season will also culminate with another tripleheader in a few weeks.

Unlike the Mexico City Grand Prix held last Sunday afternoon at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, which was broadcasted on ABC, the upcoming 71-lap race taking place this coming Sunday around the 15-turn, 2.677-mile (4.308-kilometer) Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace road course in Sao Paulo, Brazil will be aired on ESPN2 instead.

The Mexico City Grand Prix was the fifth and final race on the 2024 schedule shown on ABC.

All remaining Formula 1 races on ESPN or ESPN2

This year, four out of the five races aired on ABC took place in North America, with the season kicking off at the Miami Grand Prix held at Miami International Autodrome in May. The only race not in North America was the Monaco Grand Prix that occurred in May at Circuit de Monaco.

Additionally, ABC’s broadcast lineup featured the Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in June, along with the initial two events of the current tripleheader: the United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas and the Mexico City Grand Prix at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

Over the next few weeks, three out of the final four races of the season will air on ESPN2, a channel that will broadcast a total of seven races this year. Since the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit in mid-July, ESPN2 hasn’t shown any races.

Upcoming ESPN2 races feature the Qatar Grand Prix at Lusail International Circuit on December 1st, followed by the final race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit, on December 8th.

The lone exception is the Las Vegas Grand Prix, which is the 12th and final race on ESPN’s portion of the schedule. That race is scheduled to take place at the Las Vegas Strip Circuit on Sunday, November 24 to kick off the season-ending tripleheader. ESPN has not aired a race since the Singapore Grand Prix at Marina Bay Street Circuit in September.

It’s important to mention that no matter if a Grand Prix is broadcasted on ABC, ESPN, or ESPN2, live, advertisement-free coverage is provided by Mercedes-Benz on Sky Sports in the U.S.

Tune in to ESPN2 this Sunday, November 3 at 11:55 a.m. ET for the live broadcast of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix from Interlagos Circuit. Start a free trial of FuboTV now and don’t miss any of the action from now until the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season!
