4 good shows like Territory

As a die-hard fan of Western-style dramas, I must say that October 2024 has been a golden month for me, with Netflix’s Territory taking the top spot! This gripping series about the Lawson family and their cattle empire under siege in the Australian Outback has hooked me from the very first episode.

In October 2024, “Territory” has become one of the most-watched new shows on Netflix! Ever since its debut on October 24th, this highly anticipated original series has been a hit among viewers across the globe. Whether you’re in a specific region or somewhere else, “Territory” can be found at the top of the Netflix Top 10 list and even claims the No. 1 spot in numerous countries!

Developed by Ben Davies and Timothy Lee, “Territory” is a modern-day Western television series that features Sam Corlett, Anna Torv, Michael Dorman, Robert Taylor, and others in its cast. This series centers around the Lawson family, who control the world’s largest cattle company, and their struggles against various threats to their land in the Australian outback.

News on the second season of Territory is yet to arrive, but we remain optimistic that it will stream on Netflix soon. The impressive initial viewing figures suggest a quick renewal is likely!

As you anticipate the upcoming season, here are six excellent series that fans of Territory might enjoy watching during the waiting period.

Yellowstone

Where to watch: Peacock

Everyone seems to be buzzing with anticipation for “Territory,” but right now, it’s all about “Yellowstone.” Despite my preference for the Australian series, it’s clear how they share themes as both delve into a neo-Western saga revolving around a powerful family dynasty in the realms of land ownership and ranching.

Yellowstone, a TV show written by Taylor Sheridan, made its debut on the Paramount Network in 2018. It’s been running for five seasons now (with two spin-offs added to the mix), all focusing on the Dutton family. The remaining episodes of season 5, marking the end of the series, will air starting November 10 on the Paramount Network. If you haven’t seen the first four and a half seasons yet, you can catch up on Peacock.

In the hit series “Yellowstone,” led by stars such as Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Luke Grimes, and Wes Bentley, I believe fans of “Territory” would find much to appreciate. Don’t forget to check out its prequels, “1883” and “1923,” which are now streaming on Paramount+.

Animal Kingdom

Where to watch: Prime Video

Animal Kingdom,” though inspired by an Australian film, doesn’t take place in Australia. This gripping series first aired on TNT in 2016, with David Michod serving as its creator. Over the course of six seasons, it held viewers captivated until wrapping up on TNT in 2022.

If you enjoy crime dramas that carry a western-style ambiance, then you’ll love this one! Despite being based in and around Southern California, it offers a neo-western feel. The story revolves around the Cody family and their criminal associates who are involved in various illicit ventures. After the death of his mother, Finn Cole’s character, J, joins the family household. The antics and daring heists this group attempts will leave you amazed!

The television series “Animal Kingdom” features Ellen Barkin, Rigo Sanchez, Scott Speedman, Ben Robson, Shawn Hatosy, Finn Cole, Jake Weary, and others in its cast.

Outer Range

Where to watch: Prime Video

In many respects, “Outer Range” resembles both “Territory” and “Yellowstone”. It follows a family living on a ranch in the American West, but what sets it apart is its integration of science fiction elements, making it an intriguing choice for fans of “Territory”.

The show titled “Outer Range” debuted on Amazon Prime Video in April of 2022. This captivating series was conceived by Brian Watkins and features an impressive cast including Josh Brolin, Imogen Poots, Tom Pelphrey, Lewis Pullman, Lili Taylor, Tamara Podemski, among others. The narrative revolves around the enigmatic character of Royal Abbott, a rancher at the Abbott Ranch, who discovers an unexplained hole in his field. As events begin to unfold on the ranch, it promises to be a fascinating watch, so if you’re intrigued, don’t hesitate to give it a try!

Sadly, the series Outer Range has been terminated following its run on Amazon Prime Video, however, it offers a total of 16 engaging episodes for your viewing pleasure at this moment!

Longmire

Where to watch: Netflix

Longmire is worth checking out for several reasons! To start, it falls into the category of neo-Western series, but with a strong focus on law enforcement rather than Territory. However, Robert Taylor, who plays Walt Longmire in Longmire, also stars and plays a significant role in Territory. So, if you’re a fan of Robert Taylor’s performance in Longmire, you’ll likely enjoy watching him in Territory and vice versa.

The TV show “Longmire” is inspired by Craig Johnson’s popular book collection featuring the character of Sheriff Walt Longmire, portrayed by Taylor. Throughout the series, this sheriff delves into solving diverse crimes that occur in and near the rural landscapes of Wyoming.

Besides Taylor, Katie Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Cassidy Freeman, Adam Bartley, and Bailey Chase are also part of the cast in the series titled Longmire.

Initially airing for three seasons on A&E, “Longmire” subsequently got canceled. However, Netflix took over and produced an additional three seasons, resulting in a total of six seasons available to watch on Netflix at present.

If you’re a fan of “Territory”, here’s a list of recommended shows to keep you entertained. We’ll continue updating the list with additional suggestions, especially as we anticipate a long wait until season 2.

Stay tuned for more news about the hit Netflix original series!
