Pre-production on House of the Dragon season 3 begins today
As a seasoned movie reviewer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that the news of pre-production for “House of the Dragon” Season 3 has stirred a mix of anticipation and apprehension within me. Having witnessed the rise and fall of numerous TV series, I’ve learned to take each production step with a grain of salt.
The final episode of the second season for HBO’s “House of the Dragon,” the spin-off series of “Game of Thrones,” aired in August. It’s been announced that HBO intends to produce seasons three and four as well, aiming to complete the storyline of the Dance of the Dragons, a devastating civil war within the Targaryen dynasty. Given the scale of the show, it’s advisable to start working on season three promptly; otherwise, fans may have to endure a prolonged wait for new episodes.
Today, we’re a tad nearer than we were yesterday: as per the trusted trade publication, Production List, the pre-production phase for the highly anticipated series, House of the Dragon , starts today, October 31.
Discuss: Is it significant or insignificant that preparations are commencing for Halloween before the cameras start rolling? In other words, is this a cause for concern or excitement? To clarify, this doesn’t imply that filming has begun or actors are on set; showrunner Ryan Condal anticipates actual production to commence “early 2025.” Pre-production is essentially the phase where they organize and prepare everything in advance of when the camera starts recording. This includes constructing and decorating sets, obtaining necessary permits, hiring extras, and styling numerous white-blonde wigs for the cast members.
The second installment of “House of the Dragon” concluded on the brink of several significant occurrences, as depicted in George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood”, such as the battle known as the Battle of the Gullet. It appears that Season 3 will dive right into the action without delay.
I’m curious to know if the creators of the series will consider George R.R. Martin’s feedback or continue with their own changes from his original work. Since production has begun today, we probably won’t get an answer before 2026, when new episodes are scheduled to air on HBO and Max.
