“NiKo is really good at reading them” – G2 overcome Spirit at World Finals
As a seasoned CS:GO enthusiast with years of following and analyzing the game, I have to say that this match between G2 and Spirit was nothing short of thrilling! The skill level on both sides was outstanding, and it’s always a treat to watch two teams give it their all.
malbsMd topped the charts as G2 defeated Spirit in two
At the BLAST Premier World Finals, G2 secured their spot in the semifinals following a triumph over Team Spirit. The global team demonstrated superiority against their rivals, with Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa and Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov leading the statistics.
Specifically, it was the Guatemalan who played a crucial role in achieving victory. During a post-match discussion with Xpsp, malbsMd credited their triumph to an accurate prediction of the veto within the team.
Absolutely, we were fully prepared indeed. We had high readiness for the situation at hand. We had a hunch they would select Anubis, although we had faced a 13-0 defeat in the Ancient scenario. Our team was aware it would be Anubis we were gearing up for. We took great care to prepare as well.
malbsMd on Spirit’s Anubis pick
When queried regarding G2’s ongoing triumph over Spirit (with a 4-0 lead in their series), malbsMd elaborated on how NiKo’s insights on the CT side and Snax’s strategy book for the T-side have been crucial to their winning formula.
I’m unsure, but their playing style seems familiar to us. NiKo excels at anticipating their moves, particularly during our CT phase. Meanwhile, Snax makes excellent tactical decisions on the T side too. Overall, things are going well for us and we tend to win more than lose against them in duels.

Map 1 – Anubis – G2 outlast Spirit
In the beginning, Anubis began playing on the attacking (T) side alongside G2. To initiate the action, malbsMd skillfully achieved a double kill on the A site. However, an attempt by G2 at mid was foiled due to zont1x’s clever five-seven play. As a result, the international team found themselves with a 3-1 advantage. During round four, Sh1ro seized the opportunity with his AWP on the A site, which ultimately evened the score. The match was briefly paused for technical reasons.
After the game resumed, it was clear that Team G2 dominated throughout. Led by Snax, they frequently penetrated the bomb sites, denying Spirit any significant opportunities. This pattern persisted until Round 11, where sh1ro outplayed zont1x in a 2v1 situation, giving Spirit their fourth point. The first half ended with G2 slightly ahead at 7-5.
In a dominant show, malbsMd and m0NESY dominated the map, preventing Spirit from gaining control, resulting in a substantial lead of 11-5. However, donk stepped up to breach Anubis, which led to the first T round for his team. This sparked a remarkable sequence that took the score to 11-10. Yet, a crucial 1v1 victory by Snax shifted the momentum, leading to an overtime scenario at the very least.
As overtime began, G2’s abundance of offensive power became apparent. Although Snax maintained his record of 37 maps without a positive kill-death ratio, the entire team performed better than Spirit, ultimately securing a 16-13 victory.
Map 2 – Mirage – G2
Initially, G2 seized control at Mirage, establishing an early 4-0 advantage. A impressive quad kill by donk eventually gave Spirit their first points. Spirit aspired to capitalize further but NiKo thwarted their efforts, penetrating the A site defence skillfully with his reliable Deagle. Consecutive unsuccessful attempts at a clutch by hunter- and malbsMd reduced G2’s potential for a significant half, resulting in both teams ending the round with six points each.
Once more, G2 emerged victorious in the pistol round, but they came close to losing as Spirit’s strategic play eliminated two of their defenders. In the ensuing 4 versus 3 situation, Snax’s quick thinking managed to save enough time for a successful retake. Donk was keeping pace with NiKo, but malbsMd and m0NESY had no competition. It was ultimately malbsMd who displayed a heroic 1v2 clutch to seal the deal and secure a 13-10 victory for his team.
Team G2 has secured their place in the semifinals at the World Finals. On the other hand, Spirit and FaZe are set to face off in the quarterfinals, an encounter that promises to be thrilling and unmissable.
