flameZ leads Vitality to dispatch Liquid – BLAST Premier World Finals

As a seasoned CS:GO enthusiast and long-time follower of Team Liquid, I must say that this match against Vitality was quite a rollercoaster ride! The first map, Anubis, started off promisingly for Liquid with Twistzz leading the charge. However, the absence of flameZ from the kill feed and a stellar performance by ZywOo and Spinx turned the tables, resulting in a nail-biting tie at halftime.

flameZ’s game of the month sent Liquid packing from Singapore.

At the BLAST Premier World Finals lower bracket, a fierce confrontation ensued between Liquid and Vitality. The stakes were high as they fought for their tournament lives. In a close match, it was Shahar “flameZ” Shushan’s strong comeback that ultimately eliminated the North American team from the event.

Map 1 – Anubis – Fiery start for Liquid as flameZ falters

Similarly to their series with G2, Liquid started off strongly at the outset. Twistzz stood out again as he ranked high on the leaderboard and helped his team establish a 5-2 lead. However, Vitality’s top players, ZywOo and Spinx, took control before things got too lopsided. The rifler pulled off two one-versus-one clutch victories, while ZywOo made quick work of Liquid when they tried to buy up, thus tying the half.

Without flameZ contributing to the kill tally, the defense of A site proved insufficient. NAF’s skills as a lurker became evident as he supported Liquid in building a 10-7 advantage, with Twistzz adding a dramatic 1v3 victory. Although ZywOo played well to extend Vitality’s chances, ultimately the trio of JACKZ, flameZ, and apEX struggled to keep pace.

Map 2 – Dust2 – flameZ resurgence bails out a struggling ZywOo

On Dust2 and Jackz maps historically, Vitality shines exceptionally well, making it an ideal battleground. The team got off to a strong start with a clean 5-0 lead, despite ZywOo’s unusual absence. However, flameZ stepped up remarkably, preventing Liquid from winning consecutive rounds. As the half progressed, Vitality extended their lead to 9-3.

As a thrilled spectator, I found myself witnessing an electrifying performance by none other than JACKZ during the pistol round. The French prodigy showcased his extraordinary mechanical prowess in a breathtaking display. With only two USP-S bullets at his disposal, he effectively wiped out any hope of a Team Liquid resurgence.

Map 3 – Nuke – flameZ sends Liquid packing

In the knife round, it was Vitality who emerged victorious, while the initial rounds ended in a 2-2 stalemate for Liquid. Round 5 seemed to favor Liquid due to a swift Tec-9 attack, but the Canadian pair managed to reverse the momentum with their own Tec-9s. Despite this, Liquid and their French opponents remained closely matched, with flameZ and ZywOo accumulating an impressive 30 kills between them. However, Liquid was able to secure one additional round due to a minor error from apEX, leaving the score at 8-4 in favor of Vitality as they headed into halftime.

In an impressive turn of events, JACKZ’s high-impact pistol play significantly expanded Vitality’s advantage, pushing it beyond ten points. Despite Liquid showing signs of a comeback, Vitality, in round 17 with only five pistols, miraculously clinched the round. They broke through the ramp room, utilizing their numbers, and found a route into the lower site. Then, ZywOo took charge to deliver the decisive blow that sealed Liquid’s fate.

It seems JKS didn’t receive the same information, as the Australian player intensified the game instead. Round by round, he managed numerous kills that eroded Vitality’s advantage. With Liquid only two rounds away from Overtime, XTQZZZ had no choice but to call a timeout. This strategy proved beneficial, as Vitality eventually won the map 13-11.

Vitality’s journey in the World Finals persists with JACKZ standing in, following their victory over Liquid in the Lower Bracket. The French team will meet MOUZ in the quarterfinals next. MOUZ has been performing well lately, but Vitality feels more confident after their loss to Astralis, which they believe could work in their favor during this matchup.
