Doctor Who releasing restored 1960s episodes in new box set

As a lifelong Whovian with memories of hiding under blankets to catch those late-night Doctor Who episodes back in the 60s, I can’t help but feel a rush of nostalgia upon hearing about the upcoming release of Doctor Who: The Collection Season 2! It’s like stepping into my very own TARDIS and being transported back to the days of William Hartnell, Susan Foreman, and those iconic black-and-white adventures.

Doctor Who will be releasing more restored 1960s episodes in a new box set.

Over the past few years, the BBC has been refining timeless television shows from the 70s and 80s for a fresh home video collection called “Doctor Who: The Vintage Series”.

The most recent compilation traces its roots to the second season of “Doctor Who” in 1964, featuring William Hartnell’s First Doctor alongside his granddaughter Susan Foreman, along with teachers Barbara Wright and Ian Chesterton who also found themselves in the TARDIS.

In the second season of my beloved Doctor Who, I bid farewell to the trio of friends who had journeyed with me through time and space. They were then replaced by the 25th-century orphan, Vicki, and the space explorer, Steven, who joined me on my adventures from that point forward.

In the final episodes of season 2, the nine interconnected stories reach their peak with a confrontation between The Doctor and an unscrupulous Time Lord named The Monk in ‘The Time Meddler’. Throughout this journey, The Doctor is compelled to fight against the Daleks once more and also encounters an insectoid alien race known as the Zarbi.

For this special collection, the BBC has carefully reconstructed these nine series using top-quality audio and video resources. The two missing episodes of ‘The Crusade’ were rebuilt with photographs to ensure their inclusion in the set.

Enthusiasts can look forward to spending numerous hours delving into exclusive content, including an extended conversation between the late William Russell, who portrayed Ian, and Maureen O’Brien, who brought Vicki to life, as they reminisce about their experiences within the TARDIS.

In the “Flight Through Eternity” documentary, we delve into the hidden past of the iconic series, “Doctor Who,” focusing on its early days during the William Hartnell period.
