Joseph Gordon-Levitt to star in horror movie from Black Swan scribe
As a seasoned gamer and movie aficionado with a penchant for unraveling intricate plots, I must say that the upcoming horror flick “Pendulum,” starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, has piqued my interest significantly. The blend of spirituality, trauma, and supernatural elements seems to promise an enthralling narrative journey.
In the forthcoming horror film “Pendulum”, Joseph Gordon-Levitt portrays a character who may fall victim to unusual spiritual rituals at a ‘new-age retreat’. The movie is penned and helmed by screenwriter Mark Heyman, as reported by Variety.
The story, titled “Pendulum,” focuses on a duo, Patrick (portrayed by Gordon-Levitt), and his partner, Abigail, who decide to visit a spiritual retreat in New Mexico following a distressing incident. There, Abigail starts developing an intrigue towards the enigmatic leader of the group.
Here’s a possible way of rephrasing the synopsis in natural and easy-to-read language: “Patrick is ready to go to great lengths to support his wife. However, he starts questioning the mysterious leader of the retreat as Abigail gets drawn into her charm. As suspicion grows, the couple must decide if the spiritual methods of this group are truly beneficial or if they conceal a horrifying secret that could swallow them up.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been a leading actor in numerous comedies and suspense films, however, Pendulum marks his debut as the main star in a horror movie. Meanwhile, Heyman is primarily recognized for his lengthy partnership with director Darren Aronofsky, who will be involved in producing Pendulum. They have frequently teamed up before, most notably on Black Swan, the critically-acclaimed film that garnered Natalie Portman her Oscar for Best Actress.
Additionally, Heyman was responsible for directing Aronofsky’s movies “Mother!” and “The Wrestler,” and he penned the script for the upcoming film “The Boogeyman” featuring Chris Messina and Sophie Thatcher. In the world of cinema, “Pendulum” will serve as his first feature-length directorial project. Outside of films, Heyman has crafted the historical drama series “Strange Angel,” which aired for two seasons on CBS All Access (now known as Paramount+).
Regarding Aronofsky, his latest film was “The Whale,” starring Brendan Fraser, which garnered multiple Academy Award nominations. He’s now working on directing his next movie titled “Caught Stealing,” featuring Austin Butler, Zoë Kravitz, and Regina King.
According to Variety, the movie is set to start shooting in New Mexico in 2025. As of now, no additional casting information has been disclosed. Black Bear has taken charge of the film’s international distribution rights and plans to introduce it to potential buyers during the upcoming American Film Market.
