Star Trek: Lower Decks crew aren’t “done” with the franchise
As a gamer who has spent countless hours exploring galaxies far, far away in various Star Trek games, the conclusion of Lower Decks after five seasons feels like the decommissioning of my favorite starship. The show’s quirky humor and unique take on the Star Trek universe have been a breath of fresh air amidst the more serious Starfleet adventures I’ve embarked upon.
The fifth season of Star Trek: Lower Decks is currently airing and in a few brief months, its finale will be released on Paramount+. Fans will soon bid adieu to this lively animated series that significantly altered the Star Trek universe, whether for the better or worse. Although it didn’t become a massive success for the streaming platform or the franchise overall, it has certainly found a dedicated fanbase who cherish the show.
Fervent supporters of the series adored it completely and showed unwavering devotion. This level of dedication deeply touched the actors and production team, explaining why they must bid farewell with hearts heavy. Although the characters’ journeys continue beyond this point, a new comic book is set to debut, starring Brad Boimler, Beckett Mariner, and other beloved characters from the show.
Should the team’s plans come to fruition, fans might not need to wait long before reconnecting with these characters. In an interview with TrekMovie.com, Jack Quaid (Brad Boimler’s voice actor), along with Will Cordero (Sam Rutherford), have expressed optimism that this isn’t a permanent goodbye. Instead, they hope it will be more of a “break” in their on-screen roles, implying a possible return in the future.
And yeah, like Eugene says, we were trying to think of this as more of a pause and less of a goodbye, because we just love playing these characters. We’ll do it till we’re dead. And that’s a promise.
Although the central themes of the show varied across its five seasons, the skill of the crew members is undeniably impressive. They assembled an exceptional group of comedic talents and rising stars, consistently delivering top-notch performances. It would be a missed opportunity not to utilize these actors and actresses in another series. Perhaps one that aligns with the principles of Star Trek.
It would be wonderful to revisit these characters, but with a slightly somber tone while still staying true to their original personalities. Ideally, we’d like a series that embodies the essence of classic Star Trek.
