Kyle and Jackie O executive producer reveals the real reason he left his ‘dream job’ with the biggest show in radio
As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I can wholeheartedly empathize with Pedro Vitola’s decision to quit KIIS FM after seven years. Balancing a high-stress job with personal relationships and social life is no easy feat, and it seems that Pedro found himself in a situation where his work was adversely affecting his home life.
Pedro Vitola, the executive producer of The Kyle and Jackie O Show, recently explained the actual cause for his departure from the radio station following a seven-year tenure.
In 2017, Pedro entered the program as a winner from a listener competition. Then, he assumed the role of executive producer just recently, in January.
In the month of August, he surprised listeners when he declared that he would be leaving his position at KIIS FM, having recently welcomed his newborn daughter Lucia with his wife Patty.
Currently, Pedro has disclosed the reason behind his departure from the breakfast show, discussing it on his shared podcast titled “I Wear The Pants,” alongside Patty.
His work schedule put a strain on his relationship with his wife and negatively impacted his social life.
‘For two years, I would hardly talk to [Patty] at home,’ Pedro said.
‘We would sit on the couch together and I would literally just be on my phone.’
That role demanded constant attention as if you took a brief break for two hours, you might have missed a developing news event that requires coverage the next day, or an unexpected change that occurred during the night.
Pedro further explained that he hadn’t attended birthday parties nor ventured anywhere, and he wasn’t fond of the individual he had become.
He stayed at home instead of going out. He cherished the solitude in his bed. Regardless of Patty’s plans, he declined them. He expressed feeling quite guilty about it.
Pedro explained he felt relieved when he made the decision to leave the show.
He remarked, “As soon as I submitted that resignation, the relief I felt from the burden on my shoulders was extraordinary.
Despite the pressures, Pedro said ‘working on that show was by far the best years of my life.’
Collaborating with Kyle and Jackie O is tough to put into words if you haven’t experienced it, but when their microphones turn on from 6am to 10am, it feels like a refreshing break or an escape.
‘You could have a million problems in your life … but the moment those mics go on, it’s like those four hours of you just doing whatever you can … to make the greatest radio show you can.’
In August, Pedro made known his decision to leave KIIS, a move that came only a week following the arrival of his precious newborn daughter, Lucia.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this journey, and I want to express my heartfelt gratitude towards Kyle, Jackie, and everyone else on the team for providing me with these incredible chances,” he stated.
My deep affection for that series notwithstanding, my responsibilities as a father have become my utmost concern. I’m thrilled at the prospect of investing more moments into my family life.
‘I’ll always be a fan and can’t wait to watch KJ smash Sydney and Melbourne!’
Pedro joined the show in 2017 after winning a listener contest for the ‘World’s Best Job’.
Last year, I was thrilled when they promoted me to a senior producer role back in 2020, and then, just a few months ago, my dreams came true as I ascended to the executive producer position!
