As a long-time follower of the gaming world and its subsequent adaptations to screen, I must say that the ongoing competition for the role of Lara Croft is truly exhilarating! Having seen Sophie Turner’s fierce portrayal as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, and Lucy Boynton’s captivating performances in films like Murder on the Orient Express and Bohemian Rhapsody, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia mixed with anticipation.

Recently, there’s been a renewed excitement surrounding the classic video game series, “Tomb Raider”, which follows Lara Croft, an international treasure hunter reminiscent of Indiana Jones but with British roots. Notably, Netflix has debuted an animated series titled “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft“. Additionally, the creator of Fleabag, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, is developing a live-action version of “Tomb Raider”, and it appears she may soon finalize her choice for the lead character.

As reported by Deadline, Sophie Turner and Lucy Boynton are auditioning for a part. Turner gained fame as Sansa Stark on HBO’s popular fantasy series, Game of Thrones. She has since worked in both television and film, with her latest role being that of real-life jewel thief Joan Hannington in the crime drama titled Joan. On the other hand, Boynton is recognized for her roles in movies such as Murder on the Orient Express and Bohemian Rhapsody.

The deadline indicates that Emma Corrin and Mackenzie Davis are also being considered for the role on Amazon, however, neither of them are currently testing. This seems to be a competition between Turner and Boynton for the part. Both actors possess great talent, but it’s unclear what specific qualities Phoebe Waller-Bridge is seeking in a lead actress. Obtaining the role of Lara Croft would be a significant achievement for either actor; she has been a gaming legend since the initial release of Tomb Raider in 1996, and has been portrayed by prominent actresses on the big screen such as Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.

Reminds me of when Milly Alcock, who has previously worked on the Game of Thrones spinoff show House of the Dragon, was considered for the part of Supergirl, a significant character in the upcoming DC Cinematic Universe led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Fortunately, she landed that role. Let’s see if her Westeros counterpart also experiences success.
