Raygun defiantly shows off her signature breakdancing moves as the controversial Olympian challenges haters to a dance-off with $10k up for grabs
As a seasoned observer of popular culture and a former breakdancer myself, I find this heartwarming tale of resilience and creativity truly inspiring. Raygun’s journey from being mocked to becoming the world’s No.1 breakdancer is a testament to her unwavering spirit and the power of public adoration.
Raygun has returned to her top form and is issuing a fresh challenge to her critics, with a potential prize of $10,000 at stake.
At the Paris Olympics, the Australian athlete, originally known as Rachael Gunn, found herself at the center of worldwide amusement.
Wearing attire reminiscent of a cricket outfit rather than a typical breakdance costume, Raygun moved about with a kangaroo-like leap and slithered across the floor as if he were a snake. Unfortunately, his performance failed to win over the judges.
After spending a long time on vacation in Europe, she has now come back to Australia. Seemingly taking advantage of her current popularity, this controversial dancer is actively using her renewed fame to its full potential.
On Tuesday evening, the 37-year-old academic launched a new competition on Instagram.
In the video, Raygun appears wearing a large white t-shirt, loose-fitting trousers, and a denim jacket. She completes her look with a black hat or cap.
She remarks, looking straight into the lens as she prepares to dance, “It seems a few of you believe they could excel more.
‘Really?’ she adds in disbelief, cracking her knuckles.
Afterward, she suddenly adopts her distinctive kangaroo stance and dares her audience with a question: “Shall we discover together?
I, being an ardent follower, can be spotted showcasing some of my distinctive dance steps in an immaculate white space within a meticulously edited video. At one juncture, I even perform a spin on my head.
Towards the conclusion of the video, Raygun can be observed laughing after the competition specifics for the finder.com.au promotion drift over her.
It comes after Raygun recently debuted a new look in Australia’s Stellar Magazine.
During the photo session, Raygun changed from her green and gold tracksuit and cap, opting instead for a form-fitting, bright electric blue dress with bell-shaped sleeves.
The former scholar now breakdancer stands assertively, her hands resting on her hips, before a vibrant yellow nylon background.
Raygun styled her hair neatly into a lengthy ponytail, pulled back tightly, and opted for a sun-kissed makeup style with bold, deep red lipstick for the photo session.
She completed her look with a pair of strappy black heels.
The heading above says, “What Happened Next with Raygun?” paired with a quote from the enclosed interview.
‘You did not bring me down. You did not succeed. I will stand by what I did,’ she says.
At this year’s Paris Olympics, Raygun suffered a complete defeat in every one of her combat rounds, yet her performance became widely popular to the point it was even ridiculed by shows such as The Tonight Show hosted by Jimmy Fallon, with the video going viral.
Surprisingly, she came back from Paris having been crowned the top breakdancer globally, an unexpected title as she didn’t win a medal, but rather earned it through a unique evaluation system used for dance competitors.
However, she is now being bestowed with a fresh accolade, as homemade tributes in her honor are being constructed on Australian front lawns prior to Halloween on October 31st.
A person living in Melbourne created an enduring tribute to her kangaroo’s jumping style using a paper mache figurine, adorned with an Australian tracksuit and an Olympic flag.
The artist remains unknown, but a local called into radio station 3AW to let them know the ‘statue’ had been erected on a nature strip in their suburb.
After achieving great fame with her breakdancing performances in Paris, Raygun has moved on to perform her dance moves in the northern streets, as the caller explained.
3AW host Ross Stevenson was stunned when shown an image of the tribute.
‘That is amazing,’ he said.
‘That is awesome. Someone’s put up a statue of Raygun.
‘Is that in someone’s backyard or in a public thoroughfare?’
The caller replied: ‘It’s in a public thoroughfare, on the nature strip.’
Stevenson said: ‘That is outstanding.
‘Look at the balance they’ve managed to achieve there with that statue. How do you do that?’
It is not the only Raygun tribute snapped ahead of Halloween.
A different residence in Melbourne employed a false skeleton, arranging it to mimic the kangaroo hopping dance and outfitting it with an identical tracksuit.
A skeletal figure, adorned with glowing red LED eyes, was captured at an unidentified Australian site, suggesting another mysterious discovery.
