Kanye West snaps up $35m Beverly Hills mansion after offloading cut-price Malibu ‘bomb shelter’ amid divorce rumors
As a lifestyle expert with decades of experience observing the lives and habits of the rich and famous, I must say Kanye West’s latest real estate move is nothing short of extraordinary – or perhaps a tad eccentric, depending on your perspective. The rapper, who has been known to shake up the status quo, has just dropped a cool $35 million on a sprawling mansion in Beverly Hills, following his controversial decision to transform his Malibu home into a “bomb shelter.
Kanye West recently purchased a $35 million mansion in a gated community located in Beverly Hills.
As a diligent follower, I came across information from TMZ revealing that I invested a substantial sum of $35 million towards the acquisition of a sprawling 20,000 square foot abode boasting 11 bedrooms and 18 bathrooms. This lavish property, nestled on a sizeable nearly seven-acre plot of land, is now part of my real estate portfolio.
Three months ago, his recent acquisition took place, following the sale of his Malibu mansion – known for its controversial dismantling aimed at turning it into a ‘bunker’ – for around $21 million. This was a 60% reduction from the price he initially paid in 2021.
47-year-old rapper reportedly reduced the sale price of his Malibu mansion by 60% after persistent speculation about an upcoming divorce from his wife, Bianca Censori, who is known for her work with Yeezy architecture.
West, accompanied by his wife dressed in casual attire, recently held an album release event in Tokyo. Shortly, he plans to reside in the prestigious Beverly Park neighborhood, sharing a location with high-profile individuals like Hailey and Justin Bieber.
Over time, various stars such as Sylvester Stallone, Sofia Vergara, Mark Wahlberg, Eddie Murphy, Denzel Washington, Rod Stewart, and Lisa Vanderpump (to name a few) have resided in the area.
In the designer’s latest residence, there’s an exclusive structure for entertaining guests, which is linked to the main dwelling.
Additionally, you’ll find separate pool areas adorned with picturesque waterfalls that flow gracefully in the vast backyard.
His new home also features a pool house and a gazebo as well as a paddle tennis court.
In 2022, following his divorce from Kim Kardashian, he acquired a lavish beachfront mansion in Malibu at an impressive cost of $57.3 million.
On September 26, the real estate investment firm, Belwood Investments, completed the purchase of a property for a total cost of $21 million.
The investment firm outlined grand designs for completely reconstructing the stone stronghold that was previously damaged by West, who aimed to transform it into a ‘shelter for explosions.’
He had stripped it of plumbing and electricity, with all the windows and doors removed.
It emerged that West and his newlywed spouse Censori allegedly hired an unidentified worker from New Jersey to demolish their Malibu residence, constructed in 2013 by the renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, following the secret marriage shortly after Kardashian’s divorce.
One of the workers that was hired told The New Yorker that West wanted to create a ‘bomb shelter’ and his ‘Batcave.’
By September 2023, according to various reports to TMZ, West was planning to transform his house by taking out the windows and power supply, converting it into a 1910s-style underground bunker or shelter.
Based on various reports, his intention was to tear down the marble bathrooms, eliminate the existing plumbing, and install slides instead of stairs – all part of a plan to create a secluded space where he could avoid both the Clintons and the Kardashians.
Originally, the previous supervisor of the renovation project, Tony Saxon, filed a lawsuit against West, asserting that he was dismissed following his expression of worries about the project’s significant risk. Now, Saxon stated that the musician allegedly preferred no electrical power to be used in the project.
‘He only wanted plants. He only wanted candles. He only wanted battery lights. And he just wanted to have everything open and dark.’
Not long after their wedding, they found themselves leaving the house as the project turned out to be impractical.
The rapper later put the home on the market for $53 million and reduced it by $14 million to $39 million in April.
Following the sale of the house and less than two years into their marriage with Censori, speculations about a potential divorce between West and his spouse have been widespread, with reports indicating they may be experiencing difficulties in their relationship.
The divorce rumors come amid reports that West is facing a lawsuit.
In the recent past this month, his ex-assistant, Lauren Pisciotta (who served from 2021 to 2022), filed a lawsuit against him.
She accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting her during a studio session co-hosted by the rapper and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.
Pisciotta alleged in an amended complaint that West committed ‘sexual battery’ after serving her a laced drink, per People.
In addition to her current accusations, these also stem from her earlier lawsuit alleging wrongful termination against the rapper. She asserted that before she was let go, she received inappropriate messages containing explicit text, pornographic images, videos, and phone calls from him.
Previously, a legal representative for West had disputed Pisciotta’s accusations made in her original claim, stating that the rapper intends to sue her instead.
